The Photo-sharing app Instagram is now working on a new feature that might give Instagram stories a TikTok-Style vertical feed. The company has confirmed the new development that will allow the users to vertically swipe stories that will be borrowed from TikTok to be known as Vertical Stories on Instagram.
At the moment the users browse through Instagram Stories through taps and horizontal swipes but the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app seems to be taking inspiration from TikTok so that would give the app a more TikTok-like feel. By letting users navigate the Instagram stories vertically.
Like we said earlier this notable change has been adopted from TikTok just like how Snapchat borrowed its recent launch Spotlight. The upcoming feature will prove to be more convenient to use as this is how the mobile users navigate through most of the feed on Instagram, Facebook and even YouTube. The upcoming feature is to be known as Vertical Stories and was spotted under development by Alessandro Paluzzi. A screenshot shared by the developer on his Twitter account revealed that Instagram Stories is likely to allow users to swipe up and down to browse stories instead of taps and horizontal swipes inspired by TikTok having a big, blue button labeled “Vertical Stories”. The tweet also read, “Now you can swipe up and down to browse stories“

The company too has confirmed to be working on the feature to TechCrunch that the feature is being built but is not out to the public at this time. Instagram said, “This is an early prototype and is not currently testing on Instagram,” a company spokesperson told us.” This means that the Vertical Stories on Instagram is still under development and it might or might not make it to a public launch.
Instagram is also rolling out a new layout for viewing stories on the desktop. So now the Instagram stories are shown in a more user-friendly way. The carousel redesign for stories is now being rolled out to all the users, which would also include clickable previews of the previous and next stories.
Although navigating through navigation remains unchanged but the users can see a carousel of stories that will now let you see a total of five Instagram Stories on your desktop. One story will be seen playing at the center while the next one will appear when the current one has finished. The users can also click on the arrow button on the right to move to the next and the carousel keeps on changing as you move forward. It would further include handy pause/play and volume mute buttons too with an option to directly reply to the stories similar to Instagram Stories on the mobile platform.
