Qualcomm on the last day of its Snapdragon Tech Summit announced the launch of two new chipsets for laptops. The company introduced the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platforms. The former one is the most advanced chip by the company and is specifically designed for premium laptops while the latter one will power the new tier of entry-level mobile laptops.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 Compute platform specifications
Speaking about the specifications, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is said to be the world’s first 5nm Windows PC platform chip, enabling high-performance improvements of up to 85 percent over the previous generation and over 25 hours of battery life enhancement on a single charge. It supports Snapdragon X55, Snapdragon X62, and the latest Snapdragon X65 Modem-RF system for up to 10 Gbps peak 5G throughput speeds. There is also support for Wi-Fi 6E and Windows 11 Dual Station for wire-class responsiveness with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 system.
The new computing platform by Snapdragon brings advanced camera and audio features for crystal-clear video conferencing, an intelligent Qualcomm AI Engine for enhanced experiences, and chip-to-cloud enterprise-grade security for safe, highly secure connections and computing.
Furthermore, it includes a Qualcomm Kryo CPU to deliver up to a 40 percent boost for single-thread workloads and 85 percent boost for multi-thread workloads compared to the predecessor. Whereas the Qualcomm Adreno GPU will provide 60 percent performance gains compared to the previous generation when it comes to graphics, therefore, allowing games to run at full HD resolution at up to 120 FPS.
The Qualcomm Spectra ISP enables incredible image quality in a laptop, with the latest 3A features (auto-focus, auto-white balance, and auto-exposure) alongside support for 4K HDR. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 can support up to four camera sensors and new use cases like multiple front-facing cameras on detachable form factors emerge. The Audio has been enhanced with the inclusion of Echo Cancellation and Noise Suppression using advanced AI technologies. It is capable of eliminating distracting noises during an important video call with advanced noise suppression technology as part of the Qualcomm Voice Suite.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 has more than three times the AI capabilities of the previous generation and significantly leads the competition with over 29 TOPS of acceleration.
For connectivity Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 offers ground-breaking 5G and Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing users to stay connected virtually anywhere. The Snapdragon X55 Modem-RF System enables reliable connections with speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps, starting with 5G. The latest Snapdragon X65 Modem-RF System will also be supported, giving users the ability to work from almost anywhere.
For fast and seamless Wi-Fi connectivity, the company has integrated the new processor with FastConnect 6900 technology. It can support the fastest Wi-Fi speeds available, with multi-gig speeds supported at up to 3.6 Gbps. FastConnect 6900 also makes use of 4-stream DBS to support Wi-Fi Dual Station for extremely low latency and responsiveness.
A Secure Boot process enables NIST recovery, designed to better prevent systems from loading corrupt firmware, while Microsoft Pluton integration into the Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit reduces the surface area open to attacks.
Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platform specification
Coming to the Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platform, which is capable of delivering 40 percent better CPU performance and 35 percent better graphics performance compared to the predecessor with a 6nm architecture. It has support for FastConnect 6700 to bring Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E speeds.
For better 5G connectivity its processor is integrated with the Snapdragon X53 Modem-RF System offering download speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. The enhanced Qualcomm AI Engine can also enable the premium experiences you may only expect from upper-tier platforms.
Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 Compute Platforms keep you connected at all times, even when you’re on the go or in low-power states. With incredible, immersive camera quality of up to 4K HDR, you can improve your video conferencing experience. The Qualcomm Voice Suite’s AI-accelerated Echo-cancellation and noise suppression (ECNS) can filter out a noisy background to deliver clear, crisp audio.
The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 also supports Microsoft Secured-core PC, it has security integrated into hardware, and software enabling chip to cloud security.
