Corning has introduced Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic, a new protective coating for smartphones as well as other devices. The first smartphone with Gorilla Glass Ceramic protection will be released in the coming months. Motorola will be the first company to implement Gorilla Glass Ceramic.

Corning has announced Gorilla Glass Ceramic, a novel, clear, and strong glass ceramic material for smartphones and other mobile devices. The material is said to perform better in drop tests on rough surfaces than competitors’ protective glass products. Corning already provides Apple with the Ceramic Shield material, which protects iPhone displays from harm. Motorola will be the first OEM to take on Gorilla Glass Ceramic.

The Gorilla Glass Ceramic has survived ten repeated falls on asphalt surfaces, demonstrating its resilience. In contrast to the commonly failing aluminosilicate glass, the latest addition to Gorilla Glass portfolio will be accessible on Motorola devices in the coming months.
