Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD Review: A PCIe 5.0 Powerhouse

If warp drives ever existed for storage, they’d probably go by the name Samsung 9100 Pro. As Samsung’s first full-fat PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 SSD, this 4 TB behemoth promises theoretical speeds that would make even light blink. We tested it in a high-octane environment— in an Intel Core i9 14-gen rig with 32 GB DDR5 RAM—so these numbers reflect a bleeding-edge setup. But does it hit those lofty figures? And more importantly, does it justify its Rs 49,999 price tag for anyone but professional power users? Let’s check out in our Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD Review.

Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD Review: Design

Samsung kept the physical design restrained—no RGB bling here. Its matte-black PCB slides into any M.2 slot with a reassuring clip-and-click, and while the drive itself skips a built-in heatsink, it leans on your motherboard’s thermal solution. In our tests, the 9100 Pro never throttled under sustained loads. It supports NVMe 2.0 commands and has power-efficient controllers that sip current under idle. The 4 TB module feels solid, and despite its lip-smacking speeds, it remains cool when paired with proper airflow. In a world where design meets function, this drive nails the essentials—thin, efficient, and ready for any pro rig.

Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD Review: Performance

Here’s where the 9100 Pro flexes—and occasionally stumbles. In CrystalDiskMark 8, it hit a max sequential write of 12,950 MB/s and sequential read of 12,400 MB/s. On paper, Samsung promises up to 14,800 MB/s reads and 13,400 MB/s writes, so our testing revealed a slight shortfall on reads. Could firmware tweaks bridge the gap? Possibly. Still, topping 12 GB/s in real-world runs is nothing to sneeze at. Random read/write IOPS climbed past 1.45 million, ensuring snappy database queries and software compilations.

Copying a 30 GB folder of mixed assets took under 10 seconds. When copying between two drives—internal to external—sequential speeds dipped but remained around 9,000 MB/s, which is not bad at all. Sustained heavy workloads showed stable temperatures thanks to motherboard cooling, though a standalone heatsink is still good insurance.

Samsung’s Pro-series lineage carries a reputation for reliability, reinforced by a 5-year warranty and robust TBW ratings. Samsung Magician software further bolsters trust: firmware updates, drive-health monitoring, AES 256-bit encryption, and performance-optimisation tools make this drive feel bulletproof. If you need rock-solid storage for mission-critical workflows, Samsung’s ecosystem delivers the authority you crave.

Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD Review: Verdict

The Samsung 9100 Pro 4 TB SSD earns its keep for creators and professionals who wrestle with multi-gigabyte projects daily. Though there are a few out there, from the likes of Kingston and Crucial that offer lower speeds and less storage for almost half the price. At Rs 49,999—about Rs 12.5K per GB—it demands a premium, but repays it with record-shattering sequential writes and unwavering endurance. Gamers and mainstream enthusiasts would also love it as it has a lot of space and is future-ready.
