Yes, YouTube is down. The online video streaming platform is now experiencing a major global outage that has impacted numerous users, as shown by over 320,000 complaints on DownDetector, primarily from the United States.
The YouTube outage got worse late on Tuesday, February 17, and continued into Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Many users have reported seeing the error message “Something went wrong” at this time, which has been frustrating. Some users have also experienced unexpected account logouts. The Gadget Bridge Team also confirmed that they encountered the same problem while using the app and were being signed out of their accounts without warning. The problem seems to be broad, affecting users in different areas and highlighting that the platform’s service is crashing.
Reports in India peaked between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM IST, which was the same time as a global surge of over 240,000 reports.

Are you having any of the problems listed below?
The difficulties with the platform are many and affect both the website and mobile apps. Users have highlighted several major issues, including trouble signing in, where accounts disappeared from devices, and users couldn’t log back in. There are also problems with the Home page and Subscriptions feed, which won’t load. YouTube TV and the YouTube Studio dashboard are triggering issues for both creators and viewers. Lastly, some users have been able to go to some video URLs directly, but they have problems like slow video playback and missing comments, which means that the content isn’t fully loading.

Currently, YouTube appears to be the sole source of the problems, receiving a significant number of user reports. Gmail and Drive, two other important Google services, are working fine. The problem probably comes from YouTube’s special authentication servers or the metadata service that connects Google accounts to YouTube profiles.

Here’s what you can do now:
There isn’t much you can do about the Google/YouTube issue because it’s on the server side. Some people have noticed that Incognito Mode lets them watch videos without having to sign in to their accounts.
You should also keep an eye on the @TeamYouTube account on X (previously Twitter) for official news about the situation.
Is there any official confirmation?
So far, YouTube hasn’t said anything official on its official social media accounts about the current downtime. There have been many reports of the problem, with more than 240,000 notifications recorded on sites like Downdetector in the last few hours. Despite this, the @TeamYouTube account on X (Twitter) hasn’t said anything, because they usually wait until a “fix in progress” status is set before officially addressing problems like these.
UPDATE: YouTube is slowly getting back to normal, but the stability of the site varies by region. As of 7:55 AM IST, the technical team has found the fix, and reports from Downdetector in India have dropped from 18,000 to about 4,500. People in big cities like Mumbai and Delhi are seeing better mobile app performance, but video playing may still be slow at times. Creators can also use YouTube TV and Studio. If users still have problems, they should restart the app, clear the cache on their Android devices, or look for updates in the app store.
