WhatsApp plans to bring Vacation Mode with an auto-archive chat feature on its platform

As per a report, this feature is currently being rolled out to beta users

With WhatsApp being used by over 2 billion user base across the globe. And its keeps upgrading the messaging app to make it more user friendly. Now the Facebook-owned social media app is working on a new feature. According to the report, the vacation mode will be making a comeback on its platform very soon. The latest feature is being tested and is being rolled out as a part of the latest Android beta update. In addition to this, the company is also testing an auto-archive chats feature for the beta users at the moment.

According to a report by WABetaInfo WhatsApp has released a new update through the Google Play Beta Programmed with version number 2.20.199.8. Through the latest beta update, it has come to know that the messaging app is bringing back Vacation mode to its platform. At the moment this feature is under development and being rolled out for the beta users only. This development suggests that WhatsApp will include this mode in a future update.

Those who are unaware Vacation mode was first spotted last year but it never arrived as the company then stopped working on the feature. Now again WhatsApp is reportedly working the functionality. The feature is under development and when its free of bugs the mode will be officially rolled out to all the users across the globe allowing them to keep in the archive your chats when a new message arrives. But in a new development, the company is found to be testing this feature again.

The report says that WhatsApp will have a new dedicated section for the Vacation Mode, that allows choosing different parameters.

When the new feature will be enabled, Archived chats will be moved to the top of your chats list.

When you tap the new section, the Archived Chats will show up with a new button called notifications. Navigating into the notification section will allow them to choose the actions of Archived Chats when new messages arrive.

  • Notify new messages: it’s the current behaviour. If you decide to disable it (when the feature will be available for everyone), you will have the vacation mode, so archived chats continue to stay in the archive when new messages arrive.
  • Auto-hide inactive chats: this is an extension of the vacation mode. If enabled, if a chat is older than 6 months, it will be automatically archived. Probably WhatsApp needs to change the description of this option because it’s not clear now.

At the moment only two options are available but in the future, WhatsApp is most likely to bring more options to manage your archived chats. The report says that the company is expected to allow users to edit that “6 months” thing you can read in the screenshot, so the user can choose the perfect time for him. However, this feature is under development, when the company rolls it out in its next stable update we will update it first here at Gadget Bridge with a lot more information on WhatsApp’s upcoming feature.
