What is Connections?
Connections is a daily puzzle game from the New York Times. You can play it on your mobile using the NYT Games app or your PC by clicking this link. The aim of the puzzle is pretty straightforward – you are supposed to find 4 groups of 4 words with common themes. These groups are arranged in 4 levels of difficulty: Yellow (Easiest), Green, Blue, and Purple (Toughest). While this may seem simple, the puzzle often has some red herrings that can catch you off guard. Oftentimes, the Purple category can be a headscratcher with themes that may have something to do with the nomenclature rather than the meaning of the words. You never really know for sure what’s coming your way, and that’s what keeps Connections fresh!
First, let’s take a look at today’s grid

- STIR
- BOUND

Answers to NYT Connections (#1,063) Today (May 9, 2026)
On your last attempt, and can’t risk losing your streak? Here are the answers.
Yellow Group: Play, Repeat, Shuffle, Skip. (Music Player Buttons.)
If you grew up using an iPod for listening to music, these words would have jumped out at you right away. A fairly simple category to get you going.
Green Group: Bound, Certain, Fated, Sure. (Destined.)
Another relatively easy category. Once you’ve weeded out the yellow words, it’s easy to spot the connection among these words.
Blue Group: Garnish, Muddle, Pour, Stir (Verbs in Making a Mojito.)
This is a tricky one, especially for teetotallers. Furthermore, ‘Season’ and ‘Garnish’ seem to go together but belong to different categories.
Purple Group: Coil, Fountain, Leap, Season (What ‘Spring’ Might Refer To.)
In true purple fashion, this was the trickiest category of the day. If you’re still scratching your head, ‘Spring’ means different things in association with these words. A coil is a kind of helical spring. A fountain, being a natural exit point for water, is a spring. The action of leaping from one point to another is often referred to as ‘springing’. And finally, spring is also a season.
