It is that time of the year when Apple reveals newest software versions for its major devices and showcases the new features that it has been working on. At WWDC 2024, the tech giant is set to usher in AI for the iPhone and possibly the iPad as well. Apple was in talks with Google earlier this year to bring Gemini AI integration to iOS 18. Once the talks fell through, Apple sealed the deal with OpenAI. Now that we’ve seen the pathway that Google has paved for AI on Android, let’s take a look at what Apple could possibly have in store for us.

All about AI
Apple has a reputation for not jumping on the bandwagon but instead taking its time to integrate new tech into its devices the Apple way. This is why the AI rollout for the iPhone taking place the same year as Android is a little surprising. Nevertheless, there are a bunch of things to look forward to.
Latest rumours suggest that Apple will use ChatGPT to make Siri smarter and more powerful. In our opinion, this is a better move than mindlessly slapping a chatbot on every app and service it offers. The next-gen Siri will be able to take more actions inside the apps on your iPhone, taking the hands-free experience to the next level.
The Photos app will likely get the highly awaited object eraser tool. Google Pixel smartphones have had this tool for years and it has grown more intelligent with every iteration. More recently, OnePlus rolled out this tool as a part of OxygenOS’ AI package. Needless to say, the object eraser will grab a lot of headlines and create waves among iPhone users experiencing its magic for the first time.
RCS support for iMessage
Apple has hinted at plans to adopt RCS support for iMessage soon, and it seems like we may get a glimpse of it at WWDC 2024. RCS replace SMS on iMessage, bringing features like end-to-end encryption, HD media sharing, typing alerts, and more. This will vastly improve the texting experience between iPhones and Android devices, although its effects within the Apple bubble will be minimal. Does this mean the end for green bubbles? Absolutely not.
Home screen customisations
When it comes to customisations, Android devices are far ahead of their iOS counterparts. You can customise the icon size, layout, and placement for the apps on your Android phone’s home screen. Apple users get very limited control over what their device’s home screen looks like. That may change with iOS 18. Rumours suggest that iPhone users will be able to place app icons wherever they want, without having to worry about empty spaces on the layout. iOS 18 may also allow users to run custom home screen launchers on their iPhones. If these features get confirmed at WWDC 2024, it will undoubtedly be one of the biggest facelifts that Apple’s mobile software has ever had.
Passwords app
Murmurs have been going around about Apple developing its own Passwords app for iOS and iPadOS. This new app will offer enhanced security for your stored passwords. It will also sport a password generator, making it easier to set new passwords and update old ones. Your passwords will be synced across all your Apple devices.
