Mygate Lock Plus Review: Smart Convenience

Does it unlock your door or your wallet?

Smart locks are the new norm in home security, and Mygate Lock Plus is here to stake its claim. But does it truly combine convenience with security, or does it just make you pay for every little upgrade? Let’s dive in.

Design: Elegant But With A Hefty Footprint

The Mygate Lock Plus is a statement piece for your door, with its sleek, golden metallic build and sturdy construction. It has that high-end feel, with a front part boasting both matte and glossy finishes. The latch system is as secure as you can get, featuring a three-notch bolt system and a backup manual bolt option.

However, there’s one catch: it’s bulky. While it looks gorgeous on the door, off it, the lock feels a bit hefty. Once mounted, though, it blends in well, maintaining a standard look that doesn’t scream “I’m a smart lock!” So, while the design is refined, it’s not necessarily the most discreet addition to your door. But hey, it’s not here to be shy; it’s here to keep your home secure.

Ease of Use: Smart Yet Simple

Setting up the Mygate Lock Plus is surprisingly smooth. Installation comes with professional help (goodbye DIY nightmares), and within about 30-45 minutes, your door’s future has been secured. You’ll need a wooden door between 35mm and 65mm thick for the lock to fit. In case you have a slimmer door, the technician will give you options and ways to get it installed. The setup process is almost seamless, though you’ll need the Mygate app to get everything running—your door lock’s new best friend.

Once it’s installed, you can unlock it via fingerprint, PIN, RFID, or the app, making access a breeze. But wait—there’s a catch. The lock, by default, uses Bluetooth for local access. That means, if you’re out of the house, you’re not getting those real-time updates unless you shell out additional Rs 3,990 for the Wi-Fi Gateway add-on. Luckily for to test out for us, the company had sent the Mygate Lock WiFi gateway. Setting it up was easy, and in 2-3 steps, we were up and running. Remember, you have to keep the Gateway near the door at all times to access the door using WiFi.

Performance: Secure But With Some Strings Attached

On the performance front, the Lock Plus does not disappoint. The fingerprint scanner is quick and responsive, though, don’t expect it to unlock at lightning speed like those futuristic sci-fi movies promise. Still, it’s faster than most mechanical locks, and the app allows you to manage multiple users, even generating one-time PINs for guests (a clever feature if you ask us).

Battery life is solid, too, lasting around six months with 10-15 daily operations. We have been using this lock for over a month, and the battery still shows us 82 per cent juice remaining. For it to operate, you would need to put in four double-A batteries inside it. In case of an emergency, don’t worry—there’s a USB port at the bottom for a quick power-up. Or, you can use the manual key as a backup. Pretty smart, huh?

Mygate Lock Plus Review: Verdict

Let’s be honest, the Mygate Lock Plus is a high-tech marvel—when it works. The multiple access options (fingerprint, PIN, RFID, app) and sturdy construction are definitely impressive.

If you’re okay with paying the extra cost for the Wi-Fi Gateway, then this lock offers top-notch security and convenience. Over that, the Mygate app does not log you out, unless you do it yourself. We have also been testing the Godrej Advantis lock on another door, and its app is a pain. It logs all the users out after every 8-10 days, and to re-login, you need to put in the OTP again and again.

In the end, Mygate Lock Plus is a solid smart lock with some great features.

Price:

Mygate Lock Plus is for Rs 15,990, and MyGate WiFi Gateway is for Rs 3,990.

You can buy Mygate Lock Plus from Amazon.
