MacBooks and Windows laptops offer a bunch of customisation options for the lock screen background and display picture. You can set up a slideshow for the background pictures and put up a monogram or Memoji as your profile picture. Here’s how you can change the login picture on your Windows PC and Mac.

Before you begin

Your Windows PC and MacBook are linked to your Outlook account and Apple ID respectively. If you set up a new profile picture, the changes will be reflected across all devices where you’re logged in using your account. There is no way to change to change the login picture locally.

MacBook users get a range of exciting options for their login pictures.

Memoji: If you don’t want to put up a picture of yourself on your account, you can choose your Memoji. A Memoji is an animated avatar for Apple users that can be used across different apps and services.

Emoji: If you haven’t created a Memoji yet, your MacBook gives you the option of setting up a plain emoji as your profile picture.

Monogram: Your initials will be stylised and displayed as your profile picture.

Camera: Don’t have a picture of yourself saved on your MacBook? Select this option to quickly take one using the webcam.

Photos: This is the option you should select if you want to set up a photo from your Mac’s gallery as your display picture. 

Suggestions: This is where Apple suggests a bunch of default images to put up as your profile picture.

In contrast, Windows PCs offer only 2 options for your profile picture – clicking an image using the webcam or uploading one from the PC’s gallery.

Step 1: Hit the Windows icon on the taskbar and select Settings.
