What is geotagging and why you should geotag your property

Before we move on to the geotagging process, let’s take a closer look at what geotagging is and why you should carry it out for your property. To put it simply, geotagging is the process of assigning a latitude-longitude marker to a location on a Geographic Information System (GIS) map. Every property has a Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC). This UPIC can be linked to a set of coordinates on a map. Once that’s done, your property can easily be identified on the map using the exact coordinates.

MCD is offering the added incentive of a 10% rebate on lumpsum advance tax payments if you geotag your property in Delhi before February 29. You can generate a UPIC for your property by registering it on MCD’s tax portal. A collective database of geotagged properties is much easier to manage for the civic body compared to a record of ever-changing addresses. This is why it is pushing the citizens to carry out this process.
