Network congestion and call drops are one of the major reasons a user switches to another mobile network. If you have an office or live in a basement, you are likely to get a bad/weak cell signal, which will result in you not getting a call. And if you get a call or make a call, it will 95% drop or will have bad reception. To tackle the problem of bad connectivity Airtel launched Wi-Fi calling that will enable users that are on Airtel in a stable Wi-Fi zone to make voice calls over broadband/internet to any number. Airtel Wi-Fi calling started with a list of 20 phones first but is now supporting over 100 smartphones in India.

So how can one make a call using Airtel Wi-Fi calls?
Remember this works on any Wi-Fi network and not just Airtel broadband.
- You can first check if your smartphone can make Wi-Fi calls. Go to airtel.in/wifi-calling to see if your smartphone can do that.
- At times you will find you are on an outdated OS so do upgrade it to the latest Android/iOS version for Wi-Fi calling to work.
- Head over to the settings of the smartphone and check for Wi-Fi calling in connections or networks.
- Switch the Wi-Fi calling on.
That’s it. You can now make calls over Wi-Fi even if you are in a basement. We tried it and the experience is quite decent We were on a 40MBPS (non-Airtel) broadband network and it was really good.
