Amazon has updated its AI-powered Alexa+ voice assistant, making it more conversational, competent, and free with Prime. The service will be offered separately or as part of an Amazon Prime subscription. The AI-powered voice assistant, which was first revealed in 2023, will launch in the United States in the coming weeks. The initial rollout would provide users with early access to the AI voice assistant.

According to Amazon, Alexa+ responds like a trusted assistant, making it feel more like talking to a knowledgeable friend than using technology. Alexa+’s architecture is based on advanced large language models (LLMs) on Amazon Bedrock, which enables it to orchestrate across hundreds of services and devices. This is accomplished through the use of “experts,” which are collections of systems, capabilities, APIs, and instructions that perform particular tasks for customers.
The new AI-powered Alexa+ voice assistant is fitting with Philips Hue, Roborock, OpenTable, Vagaro, Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, iHeartRadio, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Grubhub, Uber Eats, Ticketmaster, and Ring smart home devices. It also has agentic capabilities, which enable Alexa to explore the internet autonomously and do things on your behalf.
