A 26-year-old rice manufacturer from Nainpur, Madhya Pradesh, named Sahil, had a life-saving experience owing to his Apple Watch, which gave him a heart rate alert while he was watching a movie. Unaware of the gravity of the situation, Sahil’s normal day took a tragic turn after the alarm. Finally, this unexpected incident demonstrated the value of wearable technology in monitoring health and responding to potential medical issues.
According to a report, while returning from a business trip to Jabalpur one evening, his watch alerted him to an abnormally elevated heart rate. Reflecting on that day, Sahil expressed his unwillingness to attend a meeting owing to the miserable weather and feelings of exhaustion, which led him to consider skipping it. However, he eventually went to the meeting, which turned out to be successful. Following the meeting, he decided to reward himself with a movie, which was about to end at about 6:30 p.m. when the heart rate alert happened.
Sahil received an alert on his Apple Watch at 5 p.m., showing that his heart rate had increased beyond 150 beats per minute for 10 to 15 minutes while being sedentary. Concerned by this abnormality while sitting in an air-conditioned theatre watching a movie in a calm mood, he decided to forego his planned return train journey at 7:30 p.m. in favour of getting medical attention. He went to see a doctor and used his watch to record an electrocardiogram (ECG). Due to a lack of medical knowledge, he decided to visit a doctor for the interpretation of the ECG results.
In this case, the patient in question, Sahil, first had an electrocardiogram (ECG), which revealed no major abnormalities. However, based on this unclear result, the doctor advised a thorough ECG and further medical tests. Notably, the doctor then told Sahil to check his blood pressure, which had not been recorded by his wristwatch. Sahil’s blood pressure was frighteningly high, at 180 over 120 mmHg, suggesting probable hypertension.
In addition to the high blood pressure, Sahil’s pulse rate was also increased, prompting the doctor to recommend immediate hospitalisation for further monitoring and treatment. During his hospital stay, Sahil had a troponin test, which assesses cardiac muscle damage, and the results were within normal ranges, indicating that there was no acute heart discomfort at the time.
Sahil focused on his health, attributing his physical issues to significant work-related stress, frequent travel since March, and a heavy intake of junk food diet. This tale highlights the significance of frequent health monitoring and the influence of lifestyle choices on general well-being.

The doctor told Sahil that boarding the train with high blood pressure may result in a stroke or brain haemorrhage, forcing him to reconsider his travel plans. Despite having no past health issues and feeling great immediately after the event, Sahil attributed his decision not to board the train to the alerts on his Apple Watch, which he feels ultimately saved his life. He showed confidence in his health, stating that he had only needed medicine for two days after the experience.
By the way, Sahil has been using the Apple Watch Series 9 for around three years. He was certain that his Apple Watch played a critical part in saving his life, claiming, “The Apple Watch actually saved my life. The major reason I decided not to board the train was because of the watch.”
