Banned: With Android smartphones, you are no longer able to take a screenshot of a WhatsApp profile photo

WhatsApp prevents screenshots of the profile image due to its latest security policy.

Key Highlights

  • Meta has blocked the screenshotting of WhatsApp profile photos.
  • This feature is currently available to most users.
  • iOS users are still able to take pictures of other people’s profile photos.

WhatsApp has added a new feature that will now protect users’ display pictures from being screenshots on Android devices. The new feature will restrict users from taking screenshots of WhatsApp Profile pictures. This feature is currently available to most users.

It’s a welcome feature that WhatsApp has prohibited Android users’ profile photo screenshots. The feature was under the testing phase and WhatsApp has finally implemented this feature on its platform that prevents users from taking screenshots of other users’ profile images on Android smartphones.

As of right now, iOS users can still take pictures of other people’s profile photos. Most Android phones currently prohibit screenshots of profile photos; however, on Pixel phones, a black image can be taken. Note that the company has not yet made any official announcement about its latest privacy feature but Android Police discovered the rollout, and as a result, users of WhatsApp for Android’s stable and beta versions are no longer allowed to screenshot other users’ profile photos.

However, users may take a picture of the screen where the image is displayed despite the additional functionality. Therefore, if privacy is important to you, WhatsApp already has a function which lets users with whom you want to share your profile image. Therefore, it is preferable to take advantage of that capability rather than making your display picture public. Similarly, WhatsApp does not prevent screenshots when a user’s profile photo is tapped in the main chat list; instead, a tiny thumbnail appears.

Besides this Meta recently added another feature where WhatsApp users will be able to search for messages more effectively and easily. They can now search messages by date using this new tool.  You may use WhatsApp’s search-by-date function immediately, as it is accessible to all users.
