Best features of iOS 18.2: The Power of Apple Intelligence

The update, which was initially unveiled at WWDC 2024, features advanced camera controls and ChatGPT interaction with Siri.

With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple introduced AI features like Genmoji and Image Playground. For users of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series, it also adds additional AI features including Visual Intelligence and ChatGPT interaction with Siri.

New Apple Intelligence features that improve the iPhone, iPad, and Mac user experience have been introduced by Apple with the release of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. Now, users may utilise Genmoji to generate emojis, Image Playground to visually express themselves, and writing Tools to add flow to their written content. While ChatGPT is integrated into Writing Tools and Siri, enabling users to use ChatGPT’s expertise without switching between apps, Camera Control enables users of the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro to learn more about their surroundings.

With localised English support available in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, Apple Intelligence is extending its language support for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac worldwide. An initial set of languages is anticipated in April through a software update, with more to follow throughout the year.

Image Playground

Users of the Image Playground app can produce unique pictures with locations, themes, costumes, and accessories. In addition to adding language descriptions, users can use their library’s photos to create visuals that resemble friends or relatives. Among the several visual styles that the app produces are animation and illustration. It can be found as a separate app and is incorporated into Messages, Freeform, and Keynote.

Genmoji

With Genmoji, Apple Intelligence has completely changed emoji communication. By entering a description into the emoji keyboard and choosing from a variety of alternatives in their photo library, users may create customised Genmojis. These genmojis can be shared as stickers or reactions in a tapback, or they can be embellished with accessories that represent themes or activities. They can even be inserted inline to texts.

Image Wand

Now available in the Notes app is Image Wand, a tool that lets users add images to their notes by utilising already written or visual context. This function allows you to circle rough sketches—even blank ones—to create finished graphics. Image Wand creates relevant images that go well with handwritten or typed text by using on-device generative models. Additionally available to users in Image Wand are Animation, Illustration, and a new Sketch style.

Writing Tools and Siri

The Describe Your Change option in Writing Tools now allows users to specify changes they wish to make to their writing. Numerous third-party apps and the entire Apple system now support this new capability.

By incorporating ChatGPT within the Siri and Writing Tools experiences on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, Apple is enabling users to benefit from ChatGPT’s experience and ability to understand images and documents without switching between apps. For certain requests, Siri can recommend access. Compose enables users to create content and include photos in their written content by utilising ChatGPT’s system wide Writing Tools.

With OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration, users can control the information and timing of sharing with the tool without needing a ChatGPT account. In the absence of an account, IP addresses are hidden to avoid session linkage, and requests are not saved nor utilised for model training. Note that users will be bound by OpenAI’s data-use regulations if they decide to connect their accounts.

Visual Intelligence

Camera Control, a new visual intelligence feature in the iPhone 16 series, improves user experience by enabling users to rapidly learn about locations and things. Camera Control can identify phone numbers or email addresses, translate across languages, summarise text, and more. Additionally, users can utilise ChatGPT’s problem-solving capabilities for intricate diagrams and conduct Google searches for product locations. Users have control over information sharing and third-party tools.

Coming Soon

Siri’s skills will soon be improved by Apple Intelligence, enabling it to offer contextually relevant personalised intelligence. Additionally, Siri will become aware of the screen and perform hundreds of additional activities in both Apple and third-party apps. Priority Notifications will highlight important notifications. Additionally, users will be able to use vibrant colour schemes and technical lines to create images in Image Playground in the Sketch style.
