Together with the Ministry of Health and MyGov the social media app Facebook has launched Messenger Chatbot to share authentic information related to pandemic coronavirus in India. The initiative has been taken in a bid to control the spread of fake news and rumours with regard to COVID-19.
The Indian Government is taking several measures to contain the spread of coronavirus. Besides this, the biggest concern in the country is to stop the rumour mills from spreading misinformation about the disease. The Ministry of health has now teamed up with MyGov and facebook to run interference for Corona Helpdesk Chatbot on Messenger to raise awareness about the ongoing pandemic. The helpdesk will allow people to keep in touch with the Ministry of Health for authentic news, official updates, precautionary measures and emergency helpline numbers through this Chatbot.
Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook India said, “In these difficult times, people are using our family of apps more than ever to stay connected with friends, family and communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the government across ministries with communications tools and resources to share timely, accurate information on the Corona Virus to keep people safe and informed. We will continue to do everything we can to help the country’s efforts.”
The chatbot can be accessed both in English as well as in Hindi. In order to get access to the bot, the users can head to the Facebook page on MyGov Corona Hub. If you have any queries related to Coronavirus or COVID-19 one can start the chat by typing ‘Get Started’, which will prompt them to either type in a query or choose from a list of frequently asked questions. Then they will get answered to their query in the form of video, infographic or text.
