Google Maps is adding cycling and walking navigation to its Gemini support, which already includes options for cars and bikes. This upgrade lets people talk to Gemini while walking or riding a bicycle, which means they can get help with things like asking for directions and sending text messages without having to use their hands. These new navigation modes are being rolled out as part of a global expansion that started with the launch of Gemini in navigation last November.
Gemini is now available for cycling and walking, and it acts as a personal tour guide while you use Maps, making the experience better, like having a friend in the passenger seat. Users can ask questions like “What neighbourhood am I in?” or “What are the best restaurants nearby?” to get personalised suggestions based on real-time location data. Gemini helps cyclists by letting them ask about their anticipated arrival time or set reminders without taking their eyes off the road. This navigation capability is now being rolled out to all iOS and Android smartphones around the world where Gemini is available.

Google Maps added hands-free driving via Gemini, an AI assistant, to make getting around easier. People may easily ask about places along their route, check for electric vehicle chargers, and tell friends when they think they’ll arrive by just asking. Gemini can help with hard tasks like discovering nearby vegan eateries that are easy on the wallet and adding events to your calendar automatically when you ask. The AI can even give you specific suggestions for popular foods or let you read the news. It also keeps drivers safe by letting them report traffic problems right away.

Gemini also added a landmark-based navigation tool that makes it easier to find your way while driving. Along with standard suggestions like “turn right at 500 feet,” users will also get directions leading to popular destinations like gas stations and restaurants. For instance, directions will say things like “turn right after the Thai Siam Restaurant”, and the location will be clearly shown on the navigation map.
Google Maps features a function that lets users know about road disruptions, such as sudden closures or major traffic jams, even while they aren’t actively navigating. This feature, which is being rolled out in the U.S. for Android users right now, is meant to assist people in escaping traffic before they get stuck in it.

Gemini makes Google Maps better by letting people use their cameras to find restaurants, cafes, stores, and other important places. Users can press on a pin and ask questions about the place out loud, like how popular it is and what the atmosphere is like. This tool is meant to give customers short, relevant responses to help them decide if a site is worth visiting.
