Google I/O 2025: AI Mode introduced in Search to enhance the ease of asking any question

In the coming weeks, a new AI Mode tab will emerge in Search as well as the Google app search bar.

At its annual developer event, I/O 2025 tonight, Google revealed AI Mode in Search, which provides improved reasoning, multimodality, and deeper search capabilities. It has also announced plans to add Live capabilities in Search, allowing for real-time assistance, among other features.

Google is launching AI Mode in Search, a strong AI search experience, for advanced users. The feature provides advanced reasoning, multimodality, and in-depth research via follow-up questions and web links. Users in the United States do not need to sign up for Labs to access AI Mode. In the coming weeks, a new AI Mode tab will emerge in Search as well as the Google app search bar.

The new Google Search feature, AI Mode, will employ the query fan-out approach to break down queries into subtopics and issue multiple queries at the same time. This enables Search to delve deeper into the web than standard Google searches, allowing consumers to discover highly relevant content. The feature is a preview of future features that will be added to the main Search experience based on user input. Beginning this week, a customised version of Gemini 2.5 will be accessible in Search for AI Mode and AI Overviews in the United States. Additionally, advanced capabilities will be introduced in Labs for user input.

Furthermore, AI Mode will provide deep research capabilities with Deep Search, which employs the same query fan-out approach to conduct hundreds of searches, reason across disparate data, and provide an expert-level, fully-cited report in minutes, saving hours of research effort.

Google Lens now integrates Project Astra’s live capabilities into Search. Users may engage with Search Live in real time, allowing them to share their camera experiences. This multimodality expands the scope of visual search.

To ask a question in AI Mode or Lens, tap the “Live” icon and point your camera. Search becomes a learning partner, explaining complex concepts and offering suggestions. It also provides links to various resources like websites, videos, and forums for exploration. This helps users find help when stuck on a project.

Furthermore, Project Mariner’s agentic capabilities are being incorporated into AI Mode to simplify processes such as ticket purchase. AI Mode will analyse hundreds of ticket alternatives in real time, including pricing and inventory, as well as manage the tiresome task of filling out forms. It will provide ticket alternatives that fit your requirements, allowing you to make the transaction on your favourite website. This will be accessible for event tickets, restaurant reservations, and local appointments, and it will be integrated with firms such as Ticketmaster, StubHub, Resy, and Vagaro to provide a seamless and pleasant experience.

The new AI Mode shopping experience combines Gemini model capabilities with Google’s Shopping Graph, allowing customers to browse inspiration, filter down products, and try on ensembles digitally. Users may utilise the agentic checkout capability to have Google Pay buy products on their behalf.

AI Mode is going to provide personalised suggestions based on previous searches and integrate with other Google products, beginning with Gmail, to provide more personal context. It can show restaurants with outdoor seating based on previous bookings and searches, as well as recommend events based on flights and hotel confirmations. AI Mode is customisable and may be turned off at any moment.

AI Mode Availability

According to Google, the AI Mode will be available to all U.S. users today, with all new features from I/O being introduced to Labs users in the coming weeks and months. To be first to test them out, activate the AI Mode experiment in Labs.
