Google Photos adds new AI features, including Nano Banana

While certain capabilities are exclusive to the United States, others are gradually being rolled out to various regions.

Google Photos has announced the release of lots of new AI features, including the integration of Nano Banana’s picture editing model via a “Help me edit” button. Users using iOS in the United States will also have access to text-based editing features. Additionally, AI templates are being introduced to the Create section to improve the user experience. The “Ask Photos” function is becoming more widely available, with support in over 100 countries and 17 languages.

To effortlessly improve your images, you may request specific personalised edits that correct common flaws like forgotten sunglasses or closed eyes. By viewing the photo and selecting the “Help me edit” option, you may order the program to perform actions such as “Remove Riley’s sunglasses, open my eyes, make Engel smile, and open her eyes.” This function uses photographs from your private face groups to provide exact and targeted adjustments for individuals in your photo library, resulting in a more polished and pleasant capturing of moments.

Google Photos is expanding its editing capabilities by allowing users to make edits using voice or text descriptions. This feature is currently being rolled out to iOS in the United States, cutting out the need to move between tools and make manual adjustments. In addition, iOS will get a revamped photo editor with intuitive gestures and one-tap recommendations, as well as new natural language processing for editing.

Nano Banana has been added to the Google Photos editor, allowing users to play around with new image tweaks. By picking a photo and tapping “Help me edit”, users may define the style they want to achieve, such as recreating a photo as a Renaissance portrait, building a mosaic out of colourful tiles, or transforming an image into a page from a children’s book.

The addition of AI-driven templates to the Create tab for image editing on Android is a significant advancement in generative AI, intended to make the creative process easier for users in the United States and India. This new tool, which is slated to arrive this week, will make it easier to generate photos by providing ready-made prompts powered by Nano Banana. Users may select popular options such as “put me in a high-fashion photoshoot”, “create a professional headshot”, or “put me in a winter holiday card”, resulting in instant image generation based on current trends.
