Google rolls out Gemini mobile app for Android users in India, use the Gemini tab in the Google app on iOS

The Gemini app can be downloaded from the Play Store.

Key Highlights

  • Gemini mobile apps can be accessed in English, Japanese, or Korean through Google Assistant.
  • One can only use it in English in the US when the Gemini app is downloaded from the Play Store.
  • On iOS you can use the Gemini tab in the Google app in English, Japanese, or Korean.

Recently Google renamed Bard to Gemini, the free version of the generative AI chatbot while launching Gemini Advanced. Gemini AI is based on the Gemini Pro model. Now users in India can download Google’s Gemini app on their Android devices. Unlike the Gemini app on Android, there isn’t a specific app for iOS, iPhone users can access and utilise the chatbot’s functionality driven by artificial intelligence (AI) by toggling a toggle located at the top of the Google app. Until now the functionality was only available in the US. But now the firm has released the Android app in more regions.

On February 8, Google released the Android app for Gemini AI, albeit it was only available in the US at first. Currently, the app is being made available in more than 150 nations and regions. The Gemini mobile app can only be accessed in English, Korean, and Japanese as of now as per Google’s support page

While announcing the availability, Google said, “Gemini mobile apps are currently available in English, Japanese, and Korean in more than 150 countries. We’ll gradually expand to more languages, countries, and territories in a way that is consistent with local regulations and our AI principles.”

For Android Google has rolled out a dedicated Gemini mobile app while on iOS one can see the Gemini tab in the Google app. As per the Google support page for Android (including as your mobile assistant): the Gemini mobile app (available to download from the Google Play Store) is available on non-folding Android phones, as well as Samsung and Pixel foldables, with 4 GB of RAM or more, running Android 12 and up. Whereas on iOS the  Gemini tab in the Google app is available on iPhone devices with iOS 16 and up.
