How to check audio and video quality in a green room before joining a call in Google Meet?

Google Meet now comes with the 'Green Room' feature: How it works?

Google has recently launched a new feature for Meet to help you check your video and audio are working before you join a meeting. Prior to clicking the “Ready to join?” button, you can always check your surrounding and external noise that you don’t wish the other person in the meeting to see or hear. However, Google Meet’s new “green room” helps you do that in a matter of seconds.

Before you join a meeting, you can check that your camera, microphone, and network are working properly by clicking the “Check your audio and video” button on the preview screen. It will help you figure out and eliminate catch issues that may reach the other side of the meeting.

The issues may be poor sound quality, background noise, muted microphones, and absent speaker or earphone. If during testing, any problem occurs, Meet’s troubleshooting feature will automatically give you warning signs and tips to resolve them.

To solve the problems. it will ask you to grant your browser access to your microphone or camera if they’re disabled. It allows you to individually select the device you want to enable for the meeting. So, within the green room, you can choose the mic, speaker, or camera you want to use. The feature has now started working out to Google Workspace and G Suite users and will soon be available to every user in the coming days.

It should be noted that the admins of the meeting do not get any control over the ‘green room’. It is a feature that the guest of the meeting can utilize at his/her end. In the initial phase, Google started to roll out this new feature (Google Meet Green Room) only to enterprise customers. Thus, it would only be available to the Google users with Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus are eligible for the update. Besides, the users having G-Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits plans can also use this new feature. However, Google is yet to share its details to free and regular Google Meet customers in the coming weeks.

Audio Video Settings

The company shared about this new feature in a blog post where it tells that users can now test the new feature to ensure that peripheral devices are properly configured. Google further adds that by using this new feature, the users can enter the meeting confidently.
