Instagram now allows users to add only five hashtags for reels and posts

This shift comes after a recent removal of the option for users to follow hashtags.

In an effort to make content more discoverable, Instagram is limiting users to include no more than five hashtags in posts and Reels. Head Adam Mosseri made the announcement, and the move is meant to get creators to use meaningful hashtags instead of generic ones, which don’t get many engagements. Instagram sent out the announcement through the Creators account, and it went into effect immediately.

According to Instagram’s latest announcement, users may no longer use more than five hashtags in a single post or Reel to facilitate content discovery. According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, the change is an effort to make the platform better for users by making it easier to find and enjoy fresh content.

Instead of using a broad range of generic hashtags, Instagram suggests employing just a few highly targeted ones (up to five) to improve content performance and user experience. The company stresses the importance of creators being mindful of their hashtags and how they relate to their content. For example, content providers could use hashtags that are relevant to the beauty industry to reach those interested in it. Instagram warns that generic hashtags, such as #reels or #explore, may harm content performance and may not enhance exposure in the Explore feed.

Previously, users could add up to 30 hashtags, but this restriction has been decreased to improve the overall efficacy of the platform’s algorithm and avoid misuse. Hashtags have usually helped make posts more prominent in searches and recommendations.

Amazon and Meta have announced a new partnership, introducing an Instagram for TV app that will let users watch and share Reels on larger displays. This app is now available on some Fire TV devices and may be downloaded from Amazon’s Appstore. It supports multiple accounts and allows users to interact with short-form content suited to their tastes by watching, sharing, and liking videos. Users may also search for other app users and content creators.
