Meta to allow users to share WhatsApp status directly to Facebook and Instagram; Plans integration with Meta Accounts Centre

Personal calls and messages are encrypted, and this functionality is optional by default.

To improve its user experience, WhatsApp plans to link up with Meta Accounts Centre. As a result, users will be able to instantly share their status updates on Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta Platform apps. Additionally, the connection will make it easier to use a single sign-on to log into several Meta apps. When the updates are rolled out, the company will notify customers and add more universal capabilities to its social media apps. The end-to-end security of WhatsApp messages will remain intact.

By adding WhatsApp to the Accounts Centre, Meta is making it easier for customers to log in to different applications using the same account and cross-post their status updates.

Meta’s blog post reads, “Since we launched Accounts Center in 2020, it’s helped people manage connected experiences across Facebook, Instagram and Meta Quest. Today we’re excited to announce that we’ll be rolling out a new option to add WhatsApp to the Accounts Center over the next few months.”

According to the firm, customers may change their WhatsApp account because it is separate from other apps. Although it is optional and turned off by default, adding WhatsApp to the Accounts Centre can enhance app functioning. In order to access accounts more quickly and with fewer steps, it enables users to reshare updates from WhatsApp Status to Facebook or Instagram Stories and log back in with a single sign-on. This functionality is turned off by default and is optional.

In order to help users make informed decisions, Meta intends to roll out new capabilities in all of its apps, such as the ability to manage avatars, Meta AI stickers, and Imagine Me creations. These improvements will be clearly explained in the apps.

WhatsApp guarantees end-to-end encryption for personal calls and messaging. Adding WhatsApp to the Accounts Centre does not change this, which guarantees that no one—not even Meta or WhatsApp—can read or hear them.

Although it will take some time to roll out globally, the Accounts Centre for WhatsApp will be accessible through WhatsApp settings or when performing cross-account actions, such as re-sharing Status.
