Google today at its Made by Google 2023 event announced the launch of this year’s Pixel 8 series in India and globally. The newly launched series includes two smartphones Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. There is a slight change in the iconic Pixel design of the devices. Both the Pixel phones are powered by Google Tensor G3 processor. Additionally, the handsets feature an OLED display and a 50-megapixel primary sensor.

The Pixel 8 features a 6.2-inch FHD+ Actua display with 1080 x 2400 pixels of resolution. The OLED screen supports an Adaptive refresh rate ranging between 60Hz and 120Hz. It supports 2,000 nits of peak brightness which is 42 percent brighter than its predecessor. Whereas the Pixel 8 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch Super Actua display with 1344 x 2992 resolution. It also supports an Adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and 20:9 aspect The LTPO OLED features a peak brightness of 2,400 nits. The front panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The company has also partnered with iFixit to provide parts, tools and repair guides. On the rear of the Pro variant, the company has added a new temperature sensor.

Under the hood, there is Tensor G3 SoC with Titan M2 security coprocessor designed specifically to bring Google’s AI breakthroughs. It is made available with 8GB RAM with 12GB storage and 128GB RAM with 256GB storage. The newly launched phone’s latest edition of Android software, Android 14 with Pixel-exclusive features onboard. Google is also expanding Pixel support to seven years of OS upgrades and security updates.

For photography, the Google Pixel 8 series is highlighted with a similar 10.5-megapixel Dual PD sensor on the front panel for taking selfies. The selfie camera has a 1.22 μm pixel width, f/2.2 aperture and 95-degree field of view. The selfie camera on the Pixel 8 has a fixed focus while the Pixel 8 Pro has an auto focus.

The vanilla and the Pro variant have a primary 50MP Octa PD sensor with f/1.68 aperture, 82-degree field of view, 1/1.31″ image sensor size and Super Res Zoom up to 8x. The secondary camera on the vanilla variant is a 12 MP ultrawide camera with an auto-focus, 1.25 μm pixel width, f/2.2 aperture, 125.8-degree field of view as well as a Lens correction feature. On the other hand, the pro variant comes with a 48 MP Quad PD ultrawide camera with autofocus, 0.8 μm pixel width, f/1.95 aperture, 125.5-degree field of view and a Lens correction feature. The Pro’s camera system also includes a third 48 MP Quad PD telephoto lens with 0.7 μm pixel width, f/2.8 aperture, 21.8-degree field of view, 5x optical zoom and Super Res Zoom up to 30x.

The camera on the Pixel phone is now equipped with an Audio Magic Eraser which lets you lessen distracting sound in videos. It is capable of identifying the different sounds in a video and sorting them into distinct layers to control. The Best Take feature in Google Photos lets you take a series of photos closer together to help you create a perfect group photograph. The Magic Editor allows you to drag and reposition your subject, and pinch to resize after taking a picture. Also, Guided Frame now works for the front and the back camera.

The company has also introduced Pro Controls and Video Boost for the Pixel 8 Pro. The Magic Eraser on this phone also gets upgraded with generative AI. The Zoom Enhance can intelligently sharpen and improve the details of your images.

The Google Pixel 8 is fuelled by a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired and 12W wireless fast charging support. On the other hand the Pixel 8 Pro sports a 4,950mAh battery along with 27W wired fast and 12W wireless charging support.

In terms of connectivity, there is 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC. Both the smartphone has an in-display fingerprint scanner for authentication. The devices are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

The price of the Pixel 8 starts at Rs 75,999 for the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage in India. The phone is offered in three colours Obsidian, Hazel and Rose.

Whereas, the Pixel 8 Pro will be available at Rs 1,06,999 for the 12GB RAM with 128GB storage variant. It comes in Obsidian and Bay colour options.

The smartphones are now up for pre-orders exclusively via Flipkart in the country. The company is offering a Rs 9,000 bank discount in addition to a Rs 4,000 exchange discount.
