Ray-Ban Meta Optics Styles prescription-optimised smart glasses launched

The AI glasses are designed for those who rely on prescription spectacles.

Meta has released its first prescription-optimised AI glasses in two new lightweight designs, Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics (Gen 2). In addition, the company is extending its AI glasses line with limited-edition frames and lens colours for Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta glasses. Upcoming software upgrades will include capabilities like hands-free nutrition monitoring, Meta AI-powered WhatsApp summaries and recall, and Neural Handwriting. Ray-Ban Meta Optics Styles models will maintain the fundamental characteristics of the previous smart glasses, representing a substantial extension in Meta’s AI-powered smart glasses collection, which was developed together with EssilorLuxottica.

Ray-Ban’s Meta glasses are made for all-day wear and for those who need prescription lenses. There are two different kinds of these glasses: Blayzer, which is rectangular, and Scriber, which is more rounded. Some of the most important features include overextension hinges that make the glasses more flexible, nose pads that can be changed out, and temple tips that can be adjusted to accommodate different face shapes.

In addition, the new Meta glasses will come in a wide range of bright colours. For example, the Skyler style will come in Shiny Transparent Peach with Transitions Brown lenses, the Headliner style will come in Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions Grey lenses, and the Wayfarer style will come in Shiny Transparent Grey with Transitions Sapphire lenses.

Furthermore, Oakley has added the Meta Vanguard and HSTN models to its line. New frame and lens combinations now enhance the performance of these models outdoors. The Vanguard comes in a lot of cool colours, such as a black frame with Prizm Black lenses, a white frame with Prizm Rose Gold lenses, and a light curry frame with clear-to-brown transition lenses. This makes them more versatile and appealing for outdoor use.

The glasses’ recent software upgrades improve their features, especially when it comes to monitoring nutrition. Meta AI lets users track meals without using their hands by using voice commands or images. The Meta AI app then gives them important nutritional information. This food diary gives you personalised information and nutritional advice based on your goals.

Other features include hands-free WhatsApp summaries for quick chat updates and end-to-end encryption to keep your privacy secure. Neural Handwriting makes it easy to reply to messages on other messaging services, including iMessage, discreetly.

An upcoming display recording feature will let users record their screen, letting them post video footage that shows how they utilise their lenses. Furthermore, beginning in May, an improved pedestrian navigation system will provide turn-by-turn instructions in all US cities. Recent versions have also included Instagram Reels, personalised Spotify shortcuts, and glanceable widgets to make the home screen easier to use.

The smart glasses will be available in several countries across the world, including the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, and the UAE. There are also plans to expand even more in Brazil, Mexico, and India later this year.
