Samsung has introduced the SSD 990 EVO, an internal storage device in India. The SSD is apt for everyday gaming, business and creative workflows. It has read speeds of up to 5,000 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and write speeds of up to 4,200 MB/s. The device is said to offer an improved performance by up to 43% and power efficiency by up to 70% as an upgrade to the previous model.

Samsung SSD 990 EVO has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 9,999 for the 1TB variant and Rs 16,999 for the 2TB model. The company will be offering a 5 year limited warranty on the storage device. It is currently available for purchase via leading electronics retail stores and across online platforms.

Samsung SSD 990 EVO comes with an enhanced performance of up to 43% compared to the previous model, 970 EVO Plus. The newly launched storage device read speeds come up to 5,000 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s.

As per the company, Random read and write speeds also get a boost with up to 700K input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 800K IOPS, respectively. The SSD can achieve optimised performance even in a DRAM-less design by utilising Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to link directly to the DRAM of the host processor.

The Samsung 990 EVO comes with a power efficiency of up to 70% in comparison to the 970 EVO Plus, enabling consumers to use PCs for longer duration without always worrying about running out of battery life.

Additionally, it is compatible with Modern Standby which enables an instant on/off function with uninterrupted internet connectivity and seamless notification reception, even in low-power states. The heat spreader label on the 990 EVO efficiently controls the NAND chip’s temperature.

The device supports both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces and offers compatibility along with thermal control and power savings for PCIe 5.0 interfaces in upcoming applications.
