Sony India has introduced the ECM-778, a high-resolution shotgun microphone for filmmaking, news, broadcast, OTT, documentaries, and TV advertising. The microphone capsule, brass acoustic tube, and optimised electronic circuitry in this small and lightweight microphone provide strong directivity and accurate sound capture. It may be placed on boom poles or cameras, supports devices with XLR connectors, and has a built-in low-cut filter for bass reduction. The microphone’s machined aluminium shell increases durability while decreasing vibration and electrical noise, while film capacitors and metal film resistors improve audio fidelity and power stability.
The Sony ECM-778 Shotgun Microphone is a high-resolution audio recorder with crisp highs and a consistent mid-low range. Its microphone capsule, precision-machined brass acoustic tube, and electrical circuit board work together to offer clear, high-resolution audio recording of voices, ambient sounds, nature sounds, and musical instruments above the hearing range of 20 kHz.

The microphone catches sound with high directivity due to its exact acoustic tube construction, which efficiently suppresses sound waves from the sides and back, decreasing background noise. The microphone capsule captures subtle sounds and high-frequency vibrations, while the precision-machined brass acoustic tube provides constant sound quality throughout recording environments.
The circuit design employs film capacitors and metal film resistors in the signal path to provide clear sound quality, while conductive polymer aluminium solid capacitors in the power circuit provide stability. The machined aluminium shell reduces external vibrations and electrical noise, allowing for high-quality audio recording.
The microphone is extremely portable and lightweight, weighing only 102 g. Its small size of 176 mm allows for exceptional mobility, making it perfect for recording quality audio in tight spaces. Its machined aluminium shell and small design make it easy to use over time. When placed on cameras having XLR terminals, it simplifies camera operating requirements, increasing set mobility and enabling a wide range of recording settings.
