WhatsApp keeps enhancing its security and privacy features. The company is developing a much-needed feature which includes the ability to Lock Chats. This functionality is currently rolling out to some beta testers globally. Users will be able to unlock their chats using fingerprint sensor, hence this will boost privacy. Prior to this, WhatsApp was also spotted testing Telegram-like channels.
Lock Chats is one of the most requested additions by users to improve privacy on the app. The feature is currently being made available to a limited number of beta testers and soon it is going to be rolled out to more users soon. By enabling users to lock chats so they can only be opened with their fingerprints. This will be an additional tool to safeguard and hide specific chats is unquestionably this one.
According to the WABetaInfo report, some beta testers who were able to download the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.14 update from the Google Play Store might be able to lock their chats. Because the chat is locked only a fingerprint can open it, making it nearly impossible for anyone else to access the chat. This feature also ensures that media files, including images and videos, received in a locked chat are not automatically saved to the device’s gallery. According to the report locked chats cannot be accessed without a fingerprint or passcode to safeguard your privacy. Additionally, anyone attempting to access your phone will be prompted to clear the chat in order to open it if they fail to provide the necessary authentication.
Besides this WhatsApp is also working to include a new Telegram like Channels on its platform. This feature will allow users to broadcast content on the platform. The functionality is apparently being provided to the WhatsApp beta for iOS. The feature is likely to become available soon. However, the company is likely to release read-only channels.
