With India-specific features, iOS 18 improves the iPhone experience for Indian users; Siri can now respond in Hindi

iOS 18 brings support for Hindi to Siri and Translate apps, a new multilingual keyboard and more features.

At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled the iOS 18 OS for iPhones powered by Apple Intelligence (AI). Users should expect to see the release of iOS 18 and other improvements in the upcoming months, however, developer betas are already available for testing. Additionally, the update is expected to improve the iPhone experience for Indian users by adding better support for typing in Indian languages and enabling Siri to reply to Hindi queries.

Apple is adding new features and supporting more languages on the iOS keyboard for Indian consumers. With iOS 18, users can change the time in 12 Indian languages displayed in numerals on their Lock Screen clock. The list of languages will be expanded to include Burmese, Khmer, English, Devanagari, Arabic (Indic), and Arabic. While configuring the Lock Screen and their Contact Poster, users can also change the font’s weight and colour. Support for Arabic, Arabic Indic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, and Telugu will be available in the coming release.

Apple has improved Siri so that it can comprehend Hinglish commands when they are used with phrases from nine different languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.

It will also respond to Hindi-language requests in Hindi. In addition to English, the built-in keyboard on iOS 18 will allow typing in two more regional languages.
Emoji Prediction and QuickPath are more features supported by default. At the moment, only English, Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu are supported for this feature.

Moreover, eleven languages are supported by the iOS 18 iPhone Keyboard, including Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Users who would rather enter messages in these languages directly can choose from alphabetical layouts. Better language search is another feature of the app that lets users search for terms even if they spell them differently.
