Swiggy has announced that it will be using Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) to let consumers place orders, make bookings, and track delivery through AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. This implementation includes all of Swiggy’s business units, like Instamart and Dineout. Users can make their own connectors with specific URLs.
Swiggy has announced that its services, such as Instamart’s grocery delivery, Dineout’s restaurant table reservation, and food delivery, would now work with MCP (Managed Conversational Platform) integrations. With AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, users can now place orders, keep track of delivery, and make bookings. Users can buy things by putting in natural language prompts and get access to more than 40,000 SKUs.

Swiggy explained what its chatbot can do, such as looking for restaurants or products, comparing options, maintaining a cart, applying offers, placing orders, and keeping track of delivery. Also, the AI can make restaurant reservations by checking availability, adding items to a cart, and confirming the reservations with only one command.
Madhusudhan Rao, Swiggy’s Chief Technology Officer, says that the integration is meant to meet India’s specific needs for convenience. This will make it easier to make decisions every day and make the on-demand experience more seamless.

The MCP protocol integration will allow AI agents on Swiggy’s platform to carry out complex activities that were previously manual and needed visiting many app panels. Users can just request things, such as “Order ingredients needed for pizza,” and the AI will handle the rest.
