What is Sanchar Saathi?
Sanchar Saathi portal is a citizen-focused initiative designed to empower mobile customers, enhance their security, and raise awareness about citizen-centric initiatives of the Government. Sanchar Saathi gives citizens more control by enabling them to see the mobile connections that have been issued in their names, get disconnected connections not required by them, block/trace lost mobile phones and check the genuineness of devices while buying a new/old mobile phone. There are many modules in Sanchar Saathi, including CEIR and TAFCOP.
CEIR Module
The CEIR module facilitates tracing lost or stolen mobile devices. This makes it easier to block lost or stolen mobile devices on the networks of all telecom companies, preventing their use in India. The traceability of the restricted mobile phone is created if someone tries to use it. Once a mobile device is located, the portal can be unblocked to allow for its regular use by the citizens.
TAFCOP module
A mobile subscriber can verify the number of mobile connections made in his or her name using the TAFCOP module. Additionally, it makes it easier to report any mobile connections which are either not required or not taken by the subscriber.
Before purchasing a mobile phone one can use Know Your Mobile (KYM) to verify its validity. On the mobile device’s packaging box, IMEI is noted and is also available on the smartphone invoice or bill. By calling *#06# from your cell device, the IMEI number will be displayed on the screen. Please refrain from purchasing a mobile if its status indicates that it is already in use, duplicate, or blacklisted.
