YouTube adds media controls to Android Auto: Details

This addition may signify advancements towards more comprehensive video support in the future.

YouTube has added playback controls to Android Auto, so users can play, stop, or skip videos right from their car’s screen. But it’s vital to remember that you can’t watch videos while driving for safety reasons. Users need a YouTube Premium membership to use this function. The new Premium Lite option lets users listen to audio in the background.

YouTube media controls on Android Auto

YouTube has added support for Android Auto, which is now available in the media controls along with music options. This new feature lets users play, stop, and skip media, but they can’t watch videos or browse the web. Even with these limitations, the new controls make it easier for consumers to enjoy podcasts and longer videos. To use background playback on YouTube, you need to have a YouTube Premium subscription. Many people are looking forward to this update since it is seen as a little step toward getting a full YouTube experience on Android Auto.

The upgrade is useful for those who want to listen to audio content while driving, even if it doesn’t provide them with a complete YouTube experience in their cars.

Besides this upgrade, YouTube Premium Lite recently introduced two important features: background playback and offline downloads. Notably, these subscribers may now play videos in the background, which is a convenient option for those who want to listen to content while doing other things.

Furthermore, the inclusion of offline downloading enables members to download videos via Wi-Fi or mobile networks. This function allows users to save content for later viewing, making it convenient for individuals who travel or visit places with inconsistent internet access. These changes seek to increase user access and enjoyment of YouTube’s products.

The service offered does not include all of the capabilities provided in the standard YouTube Premium package. Notably, full Premium subscribers get special features such as ad-free music streaming, which is inaccessible to those using the less expensive subscription. Furthermore, the audio-only listening functionality is exclusive to YouTube Music Premium, showing a disparity in features between full and partial subscription plans.
