Over the last five years, Apple’s App Store has averted more than $9 billion in fraudulent purchases, with over $2 billion expected in 2024. According to Apple’s annual App Store fraud prevention research, the store has blocked more than $9 billion in fraudulent purchases over the past five years. The platform’s robust commerce infrastructure enables users to transact safely across 175 geographic areas. With an average of 813 million weekly visitors, the App Store is a dependable source for consumers to download and discover new apps.

Apple is extremely diligent in maintaining the App Store’s secure marketplace, as bad actors devise new ways to deceive customers. These threats include deceptive applications and fraudulent payment systems. Apple’s comprehensive strategy encompasses teams from across the organisation identifying, investigating, and stopping harmful behaviour before it reaches consumers.

Apple’s strong anti-fraud system has helped prevent fraudulent developer and customer accounts from being established and removed. Due to fraud concerns, the company is said to have closed over 146,000 developer accounts and denied 139,000 enrolments in 2024. Furthermore, it denied over 711 million user account creations and terminated roughly 129 million accounts last year, prohibiting dangerous behaviour such as spamming or manipulating ratings and reviews.

Apple also attempts to prevent unsafe software from being distributed through pirate shopfronts, finding and banning over 10,000 illegitimate apps. This stops creators’ apps from being duplicated, changed, or weaponised to transmit harmful malware. Furthermore, Apple has blocked roughly 4.6 million attempts to install or run unlawfully distributed programs outside of the App Store or authorised third-party markets.

According to the company, every week, Apple’s App Review team examines roughly 150,000 app submissions to ensure they fulfil the company’s quality and safety requirements. In 2024, the team assisted over 220,000 developers in launching their first app on the App Store. App Review uses both human and automated methods to discover and respond to potentially dangerous apps. Over 7.7 million entries were assessed, with more than 1.9 million rejected for failing to fulfil Apple’s security, dependability, and user experience criteria, such as privacy infractions or fraud issues.

Malicious actors frequently use fraudulent methods to circumvent App Review’s protections and get harmful apps onto the App Store. App Review deleted more than 37,000 applications for illicit conduct by 2024. Other frequent strategies include hiding secret features and functionality in code and only enabling them once the app passes App Review. Apple also takes action against apps that aim to deceive or defraud customers by masquerading potentially dangerous malware as harmless apps. App Review rejected 400,000 app submissions in 2024 due to privacy issues.

Apple has taken rapid action against applications that trick the system to improve their App Store rating. In 2024, Apple processed more than 1.2 billion ratings and reviews, deleting over 143 million fake ones. Furthermore, it deleted almost 7,400 apps from App Store charts and approximately 9,500 fraudulent apps from search results. These initiatives create a fair playing field for developers.

According to the firm, it is dedicated to safeguarding consumers from scams and payment risks, saving more than $2 billion in fraudulent transactions by 2024. It employs Apple Pay, which uses a device-specific number and a unique transaction code to prevent card theft. Apple has discovered roughly 4.7 million stolen credit cards and blocked more than 1.6 million accounts from transacting again. Developers may leverage Apple’s in-app purchase system, which provides a safe environment for privacy, fraud prevention, and easy transaction administration. Apple will continue to strengthen its commitment to providing people with options to report suspected fraud.

CMF Buds 2 Review: Is this the TWS to beat in the budget segment?

Last month, Nothing’s budget sub-brand, CMF, launched its new series of wireless earbuds alongside the Phone 2 Pro (our review here). The series comprises three variants – Buds 2a, Buds 2, and Buds 2 Plus. We reviewed the top-spec Buds 2 Plus earlier this month and found it to be one of the best TWS offerings in its segment. Now, we turn our attention to the Buds 2, which undercuts the Plus variant by Rs 600 while matching most of its specs. Here is our in-depth review of the CMF Buds 2 TWS.

CMF Buds 2 Review: Design

Here’s what you get inside the CMF Buds 2’s retail box:

The Buds 2 follow CMF’s signature design language. It looks identical to the Plus variant. The only difference is that its dial has a glossy finish instead of a matte texture. The plastic body retains the matte finish and has a premium in-hand feel. The hinge is strong and durable. The bottom-right corner of the lid is branded with the ‘CMF by Nothing’ lettering. The USB Type-C port is placed on the right edge of the case, and the LED notification light is positioned below the lid.

CMF Buds 2 v CMF Buds 2 Plus

The Buds 2 earbuds are fractionally smaller than their Buds 2 Plus counterparts. The difference is unnoticeable unless you take a look at the spec sheet or try both pairs of earbuds at the same time. The Buds 2 fit us better than the Buds 2 Plus. The in-ear design provides a comfortable and secure fit. We did not feel any ear fatigue even after wearing the earbuds for multiple hours on end.

The stems of the earbuds have a matte finish. There is a small glossy circle at the top to mark the touch-sensitive area. The touch controls are tuned very nicely. Accidental triggers are rare, if there are any at all. Each earbud has 3 HD microphones.

CMF Buds 2 Review: Design

The IP55 dust and water resistance of these earbuds comes in handy when you wear them while working out. They remain unbothered by excessive sweat. There is no drop in performance to be seen. However, the inner ear sweat causes the fit to loosen up a bit.

CMF Buds 2 Review: Performance

The CMF Buds 2 are equipped with 11mm PMI drivers with Dirac Opteo. Meanwhile, the Plus variant of the TWS channels its output through 12mm LCP drivers. The base variant offers 2 audio codecs: SBC and AAC. The LDAC codec is exclusive to the Plus model. Both offerings support Bluetooth 5.4, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair.

The CMF Buds 2’s soundstage is very similar to the Plus variant. We like the open and expansive nature of this soundstage. While it is far from neutral, we like Nothing’s signature on the output. The low frequencies are slightly boosted, but the mids and highs get enough room to express themselves. If you’re a hardcore basshead, the Nothing X app offers an ‘Ultra Bass’ option that goes up to 5 levels of intensity.

You can use the Nothing X app to customise the equaliser as well. By default, it is set to the Dirac Opteo profile. There are 5 other presets on offer – Pop, Rock, Classical, Electronic, and Enhance Vocals. If none of these options rock your boat, you can set up your own custom profile.

On top of an exceptional soundstage, the CMF Buds 2 offer an exquisite ANC experience. These earbuds can nullify up to 48dB of surrounding sounds within a 5,200Hz frequency range. We used this feature in public transportation and were pleased to see how easily the earbuds nullified the sounds emanating from the engine. The sound of traffic still managed to filter through, but its intensity was greatly reduced. The Nothing X app offers 4 ANC modes – Low, Mid, High, and Adaptive. The Transparency mode is also accessible from the app. You can toggle between the two modes by long-pressing either earbud.

Nothing X app

The Nothing X app can also be used to remap the touch controls on the earbuds. Interestingly, there is no option to program a single tap on the earbuds. We like this because it eliminates accidental touches for the most part. You can answer calls by double-tapping an earbud. The calling experience is pretty standard for the segment. The earbuds do a good job of extracting the caller’s voice from the surrounding sounds, but the audio quality is a little boxy.

The CMF Buds 2 offer multi-device connectivity. You can pair these earbuds with 2 devices at once. They are able to switch between the 2 devices very seamlessly. In-ear detection is another feature offered by this TWS that we like a lot. As soon as you pull an earbud out of your ear, your device pauses the media that it is playing. Lastly, there’s a nifty ‘Low lag’ mode that drops the latency of the earbuds down to 110ms while gaming. This is a nice feature to have, but most earbuds in this segment are able to drop their latency down to 50/60ms.

Each earbud is equipped with a 53mAh battery pack, and there’s an additional 460mAh in the case. With ANC off, you can push the battery life of the earbuds to 13.5 hours. The case offers 55 hours worth of backup. With ANC turned on, the earbuds can go up to 7.5 hours on a full charge, while the case lasts up to 32 hours. Using a USB Type-C cable, it takes 90 minutes to fully charge the TWS.

Verdict

The CMF Buds 2 are a massive disruptor in the budget TWS segment. Its expansive soundstage, incredible ANC skills, and versatile battery life are unmatched in this price bracket. On top of that, the minimal design and premium finish of the product elevate its appeal massively. We aren’t entirely satisfied with the low latency mode of these earbuds, but if you’re not a serious gamer, it won’t be an issue for you.

iQOO’s midrange and flagship offerings cater to gamers and users who value high benchmarks. However, its budget offerings appeal to a broader audience of casual users. The newly launched iQOO Z10x gives as much importance to aesthetics as it does to performance. On paper, it boasts some eye-catching specs. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC, runs the Funtouch 15 OS out of the box, packs a massive 6,500mAh battery with 44W fast charging, and is compliant with MIL-STD-810H durability standards. The iQOO Z10x looks nothing like last year’s Z9x (our review here). The new back panel feels more like glass, even though it is made out of plastic. Its edges slightly curve towards the plastic frame, giving the smartphone a nice grip. The rectangular camera panel now houses a Dynamic Light as well. It springs into action when you receive an incoming call or notification. It can even sync with the music playing on your phone. The light turns red when your phone hits a low battery level. The breathing animation indicates that the phone is currently charging. iQOO Z10x 5G Review: Design and Display The plastic frame houses the volume rocker keys and the side button on its right edge. The side button also functions as a fingerprint scanner. The SIM tray lies on the left side of the frame. The microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker are positioned at the bottom. The earpiece acts as the secondary speaker. The smartphone has an IR blaster too, but it is placed in the camera panel instead of its more conventional position at the top of the frame. design The iQOO Z10x pays special attention to toughness and durability. The smartphone is compliant with MIL-STD-810H standards. While we didn’t conduct a drop test, we can confidently say that the smartphone can absorb light knocks and drops from the pocket with ease. Its IP64 protection safeguards it against water splashes. display The 6.72-inch IPS LCD panel has a 120Hz refresh rate. It can reach 1,050 nits in High Brightness Mode. In bright outdoor conditions, the display struggles to overcome the intensity of direct sunlight. On the bright side, its touch response is very smooth. There is no in-display fingerprint scanner to be found here, but the side-mounted fingerprint reader is quick and snappy. The bezels around the display get thicker in the chin area. iQOO Z10x 5G Review: Design and Display During the review period, we used the iQOO Z10x 5G as our primary media streaming device. The LCD panel produces rich and vibrant visuals, but it lacks the depth of an AMOLED display. Having said that, the viewing experience is quite good, considering the brightness and size of the display. The earpiece acts as a secondary speaker and bumps the audio output. The sound is slightly boxy, but that’s something to be expected from a device in this price bracket.

In the week-long review period, we were satisfied with the smartphone’s everyday performance. It expertly handled routine tasks like calling, messaging, web browsing, navigation, and media streaming. Multi-tasking different apps did not prove to be a hassle either. The apps take slightly longer to load, but that’s the case with every budget smartphone. iQOO Z10x 5G Review: Performance and Cameras We played Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt Legends Unite on the Z10x and were satisfied with how it handled the two games. The gaming experience is enjoyable when you limit the frame rate to 60fps and set the graphics to the medium setting. The gameplay is smooth for the most part, and there are no jitters to be seen. It took 20 minutes of consistent gameplay for the back panel to start warming up. iQOO Z10x 5G Review: Performance and Cameras iQOO Z10x runs the Android 15-based Funtouch 15 OS out of the box. iQOO has promised 2 major OS upgrades and 3 years of security patches for this device. There is some bloatware on this device, including the ‘Games’ and ‘Apps’ folders that serve as ads for the V-Appstore. The good thing about Funtouch 15 OS is that it’s light and well-optimised. There are plenty of customisation options for the lockscreen, icons, Always on Display, and home page. On top of that, the Z10x packs AI features like AI Erase, AI Translation, AI Photo Enhance, AI Documents, and Circle to Search. The massive 6,500mAh battery pack puts up a good display. During the review period, our daily tasks on the iQOO Z10x included video calling, emailing, gaming, social media browsing, and media streaming. An average day ended with ~30% charge left in the tank. With more moderate usage, you can push the device’s battery life to almost 2 days. The 44W power adapter provided in the box takes almost 90 minutes to fully charge the smartphone. camera Moving on, the iQOO Z10x’s rear camera panel packs a 50MP primary shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The 8MP selfie camera is housed in a punch-hole cutout on the display. The rear camera can record 4K videos at 30fps. Meanwhile, the selfie camera can shoot 1,080p videos at 30fps. camera camera In a bright outdoor setting, the 50MP primary shooter takes good pictures. The images showcase vibrant colours and optimum sharpness. The dynamic range is good, too. The images get visibly softer in limited lighting conditions. In pitch-dark conditions, the Night Mode does little to brighten the subject and remove the noise. This performance is on par with other devices in the segment.

The Z10x takes decent portrait shots. It does a good job of focusing on the subject, but the background blur leaves more to be desired. The 8MP front-facing camera takes good selfies. The images do not look overprocessed, even though the smartphone applies a subtle skin-smoothing effect. The skin tone is captured and processed really well. The iQOO Z10x 5G is one of the most reliable smartphones you can get under Rs 15,000. It looks and feels like a premium device and backs up its aesthetic with an impressive performance. The Dimensity 7300 SoC is one of the most versatile midrange processors we’ve seen in a while, and it lives up to its reputation on the Z10x. The 6,500mAh battery pack is as vital to the phone’s performance as its processor. It puts the user’s battery anxiety at ease by lasting more than a day on conservative usage. The only thing that is a bit of a letdown on this smartphone is the lack of a microSD slot.
