Fujifilm Launches GFX100RF: The Lightest Large-Format Digital Camera Yet

The GFX100RF brings 102MP large-format photography in a compact, stylish package.

Photography enthusiasts, brace yourselves—large-format photography just went on a diet. Fujifilm has officially unveiled the Fujifilm GFX100RF, the first fixed-lens digital camera in its renowned GFX Series, in India. Priced at Rs 5,49,999, this high-end shooter packs an impressive 102-megapixel sensor into a body weighing just 735 grams, making it the lightest large-format camera Fujifilm has ever released.

Large Format Goes Feather-Light

Breaking new ground with its lightweight build, the GFX100RF proves you can achieve extraordinary large-format image quality without the usual bulk. The camera features the newly developed GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor paired with the ultra-fast X-Processor 5, promising crisp, high-quality images that rival heavier medium-format cameras. With its meticulously machined aluminium construction, the GFX100RF feels as premium as it performs.

Dial Into Creativity

The GFX100RF comes equipped with an innovative Aspect Ratio Dial—an intriguing nod to Fujifilm’s rich analogue heritage. Photographers can effortlessly toggle between nine versatile shooting formats, including the new ‘3:4′ and ’17:6’ ratios. This tactile experience enhances creativity, allowing users to choose an aspect ratio that best suits their artistic vision.

Versatile Lens, Limitless Possibilities

Paired with a newly developed 35mm F4 fixed lens (28mm equivalent), the GFX100RF ensures versatile performance across various shooting scenarios—landscapes, portraits, or everyday snapshots. The built-in leaf shutter mechanism not only enables flash photography at any shutter speed but also keeps the camera impressively compact. Additionally, the digital teleconverter lever provides flexibility, offering three focal lengths: 45mm, 63mm, and 80mm.

Next-Level Autofocus and Video Capabilities

Beyond still photography, the GFX100RF shines with its high-speed, precision autofocus, powered by AI-driven subject detection technology capable of recognising animals, vehicles, and even aeroplanes. Its video capabilities aren’t shabby either, delivering smooth 4K/30P 10-bit recordings that cater to both professional and enthusiast videographers.

Elegant and Functional Accessories

Fujifilm hasn’t overlooked the accessories. The GFX100RF package includes a weather-resistant protector filter, a precision-machined aluminium lens hood, and, notably, a stylish rope-type shoulder strap—a first for the GFX series.

Is This the Future?

Fujifilm’s GFX100RF masterfully bridges the gap between professional large-format image quality and everyday portability. It’s a compelling choice for those who crave top-tier photography but dread lugging around bulky gear. While the price may induce sticker shock for some, for serious photographers, the blend of innovation, usability, and style may very well justify the investment.
