The iPhone 17 series is expected to be released in early September 2025, possibly featuring the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max models. While the launch is still months away, speculations and reports regarding the new smartphones have been floating around for quite some time. The newest of them is that upcoming iPhone 17 models may get a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective display coating.
A report claims that Apple suppliers have produced a new anti-reflective glass with high productivity, indicating that mass production is feasible. Ceramic Shield glass and an oleophobic coating that resists fingerprints are features of the most recent iPhone models. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, which now have Ceramic Shield glass with an oleophobic coating that prevents fingerprints, are anticipated to be the only versions to get the new coating. The present Ceramic Shield may stay in the standard iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Air.
Despite rumours of an improved durability of the anti-reflective glass layer, which were first circulated in March, Apple has abandoned plans to add a scratch-resistant anti-reflective display coating on iPhone 17 Pro models because of production problems. This was reported in April this year.

However, you should always be sceptical of speculations and leaks, particularly if they appear online months before the product’s release. According to earlier reports, Apple intends to incorporate hardware improvements and a new camera design, with prototype iPhone 17 Pro models showing up before launch.
Images of the iPhone 17 Pro dummy unit, which includes a new back camera design akin to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, have been leaked by Apple tipster Majin Bu. The module has expanded in size and has been placed in an extensive strip. The phone also has a LiDAR scanner and an LED light.
Apple plans to add up to 12GB of RAM to all iPhone 17 variants, offering fast wired and wireless charging, longer battery life, and improved speed and efficiency. The A19 Pro Bionic chip may power the iPhone 17 Pro, while the A18 chip, used in the iPhone 16 series, is likely to be retained in the basic iPhone 17 and 17 Air.

According to Jeff Pu, all iPhone 17 series models will have a 24MP front-facing camera, which is an upgrade from the iPhone 16 model’s 12MP selfie camera. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst for Apple, supports these predictions. Pu announced in October 2024 that the iPhone 17 Pro would feature a 48MP telephoto sensor with 3.5x optical zoom and a revamped horizontal triple-lens rear camera system.
