YouTube is shutting down the trending page, a decade after its launch

According to the company, as people find content from several sources, page views have drastically decreased over the past five years.

Today, YouTube will shut down its Now Trending list and Trending Page. A decade after its 2015 start, the video streaming service will take down both pages. YouTube Charts now allow users to locate popular YouTube videos in particular categories. According to the company, as people find content from several sources, page views have drastically decreased over the past five years.

Nearly ten years after its introduction in 2015, Google has announced that the YouTube Trending Page and its Trending Now list will be taken off the platform on July 21. Google’s YouTube Trending Page Help Centre made the statement.

Initially, YouTube’s Trending tab was exclusively dedicated to viral videos. Today, though, it has a large number of videos from different fandoms and microtrends that are popular with a wide range of groups. On YouTube, users may discover trends in a variety of locations, such as communities, recommendations, search suggestions, short videos, and comments. Over the past five years, this has caused a notable decline in the number of visits to the Trending page.

The blog post said, “So, we’re making updates to better match how people discover trending content today by shifting away from one all-encompassing Trending list towards category-specific charts that we’ll continue to invest in over time.”

According to the company, after Trending Page and Now Trending list were removed, users can find the most popular content in specific categories on YouTube Charts. Currently, viewers may browse Trending Movie Trailers, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Music Videos; other content categories will be introduced over time.

YouTube will also provide a greater selection of popular content by displaying popular content in charts and making personalised video recommendations to users. Viewers can discover new content more easily as a result. They may still access non-personalised content via the subscriptions feed, creator channels, and Explore.

According to Google, YouTube Studio is focusing on giving creators customised ideas for determining which content is popular with their viewers. Favourite videos are emphasised by the “Hype” function, while personalised ideas are provided by the “Inspiration” option. On its official platforms, the platform will keep promoting Creators on the Rise, enabling millions of people to find and appreciate fresh talent. The Music Explore page will feature a special place for Artist on the Rise.
