Beginning with the Pixel 10 series in the US, Google Photos is implementing AI capabilities for automatic image edits based on user-provided natural language commands. Multiple change requests can be consolidated into a single prompt, and users can request adjustments such as restoring quality or adjusting the colour of the sky. In order to distinguish between photos that have been edited with and without artificial intelligence, Google is also incorporating C2PA Content Credentials into the native camera app.
The company via blog post said, “We’re making it unbelievably easy to quickly edit your images in Google Photos ― just ask Photos to edit your pictures for you. Coming first to Pixel 10 in the U.S., you can simply describe the edits you want to make by text or voice in Photos’ editor, and watch the changes appear. And to further improve transparency around AI edits, we’re adding support for C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos.”

The updated image editor has a central area for editing tools and AI-powered suggestions for fast tweaks. Users may also circle or tap certain areas of an image to get editing recommendations. Now, the editor offers conversational editing features, including natural language, gestures, and one-tap suggestions. Photos may produce unique AI-powered edits because of advanced Gemini capabilities, which instantly bring ideas to life. Without choosing tools or adjusting sliders, users may ask Photos for any changes they want.
Users can request specific edits or general changes in this conversational, open-ended process without having to specify which tools they wish to utilise. Photos are able to comprehend the modifications and make more than one request at a time. Users can begin by entering “make it better” or by utilising one of the suggested options if they are not sure where to begin. After every modification, follow-up instructions may be given to help refine the image and get the desired effect.
Beyond corrective editing features like lighting and distraction removal, Photos offers a vast array of editing possibilities. You can ask for creative assistance, such as changing the background or including fun objects with the main subject. Because users can simply tell Photos what they want to see, the options are unlimited, ranging from basic tweaks to intricate changes.

Transparency in image creation will be made possible by the first native camera app on Pixel 10 smartphones to leverage industry-standard C2PA Content Credentials. Along with Google Photos’ current support for IPTC metadata for AI-edited photos and SynthID for AI-edited images, this will also be enabled. This will make the process of creating images more transparent.
Google Photos now shows information about image capture or editing based on C2PA Content Credentials, which is first accessible for the Pixel 10 and will progressively roll out to Android and iOS devices in the following weeks.
