Realme 15 Pro 5G Review: Beauty with brains

This year, numerous companies in India debuted smartphones priced around Rs 30,000.

The Realme 15 5G Series made its debut in India recently, with two phones: the Pro and the standard model. We reviewed the former gadget, which begins at Rs 31,999 in India. The phone offers several unique features, but it also has some drawbacks. The specifications provide only one side of the story. So, if you’re looking to buy a new smartphone, we hope our review of the smartphone helps you comprehend its performance, design, and, most importantly, photography experience. Here’s our review of the Realme 15 Pro 5G.

Design and Display

Starting with the package, you receive the phone, charger, cable, ribbed case, and SIM release tool.

The 7.69 mm thin smartphone feels incredibly light in our hands, especially considering that it houses a huge 7,000 mAh battery. Additionally, the weight distribution is accurate. It doesn’t appear to have such a large battery. The phone weighs about 192 grams.

This one-piece back looks and feels fantastic, even though you could believe the back and the camera bump are made of distinct materials. Because the rest of the phone is so thin, the camera bulge is noticeable. However, we are startled to learn that the first major bump on the module is the dummy. It is worth noting that the majority of companies use this strategy just to make the product appear more expensive.

Aside from that, this is a nice-looking phone that conveys a sense of quality for the price. But, Realme, we’re still puzzled about why the dummy cutout is necessary. The camera module is remarkably similar to the Realme GT series.

Aside from that, there is a pulse light, which is both unique and eye-catching. In addition, the phone has dust and water resistance certifications of IP66+IP68+IP69. This means it may be used in the rain or for water sports activities.

Three colour options are available for the Pro 5G: Flowing Silver, Velvet Green, and Silk Purple. The Velvet Green model, which has a vegan leather finish, is the one we have been reviewing.

Looking at the ports and buttons quickly, you can see that there is a speaker grill at the bottom. a microphone, a SIM card tray, and a USB Type-C connector. Nothing is visible on the frame’s left side. There is a speaker slit and two noise-cancelling microphones on top. There is a power on/off button and a volume rocker on the right side. Despite having a plastic casing, the phone is comfortable to carry.

Without a doubt, this phone has an incredible in-hand feel. Additionally, the bezels are thin and even on both sides, so you won’t have many issues with this screen.

The 6.8-inch 1.5K 4D Curve+ AMOLED display of the handset has a resolution of 2,800 x 1,280 pixels, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 6,500 nits. Additionally, the display features an instant touch sampling rate of up to 2,500 Hz. Because the front is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, little scuffs and scratches won’t be a problem. They have a quad curved screen, by the way, and it looks good.

Additionally, it supports HDR10+. We tested it for multimedia, and the results are fantastic. HDR content makes the most of this display’s capabilities, providing you with vibrant colours and fine detail.

We also tested it outdoors, and the visibility is quite good. The phone’s maximum brightness is 6,500 nits, and its HBM mode is 1,800 nits. For usage in low light, the dimming is also reliable. You can use the Eye Care function and low brightness to browse social media and engage in late-night conversations. Yes, there is no latency, and the 144 Hz refresh rate is nicely optimised. The hues and textures are striking, and the touchscreen is responsive.

Performance and Cameras

As we mentioned at the outset, the device boasts impressive specifications on paper, and this also holds for performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, which has up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, powers the device. There are rivals with more potent CPUs at this price range.

The high refresh rate screen enhances the overall gaming experience, and we tested the BGMI at 60 frames per second to test the gaming capabilities. During prolonged periods of intense gameplay, there was surprisingly no heating problem.

The RAM management on the phone is superb. No matter where you leave an application, it will pick up where you left it.

Additionally, the Photos app’s AI Genie is one of the cool aspects of the Realme UI. It may now edit the pictures to your preference and add a backdrop. Please note that your data and photographs can be collected and used, and the results may not be particularly refined.

Over that, you get practical features like riding mode, glove mode, screen recognition, and interesting gestures and motion controls for using your phone. However, Realme has also included some bloatware, which you can turn off but can’t completely get rid of. Finally, when compared to competitors that give up to seven years of upgrades, there are still just two years of operating system and three years of security patches.

The dual rear camera system consists of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX896 primary sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor, is the main feature at the back. It has a 50-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies.

During the day, photos are clear and sharp. Thanks to the night mode, the low-light photos are also rather good. The depth that is produced between the subject and the background in portrait mode doesn’t appear artificial.

Moreover, the ultrawide catches a great deal of information, and you may enlarge photos significantly before experiencing a significant loss of quality.

All three cameras are capable of recording at 60 frames per second in 4K. The 4K videos are bright and steady, and they handle the subject transitions and fast focus shifts rather well. Ultra-wide videos do, however, exhibit observable shakes. While having 4K 60 fps video up front is nice, using the stabilisation option will only yield 1080p.

You wouldn’t believe that the photos were taken with a mid-range smartphone camera since they are so natural, crisp, and detailed.

Images from the selfie camera are detailed, although not as detailed as those from the primary or ultrawide cameras. You may take quality portraits in low light with this phone’s several portrait modes. Additionally, you often get decent background separation and edge detection while using it outdoors. All things considered, however, there are discernible AI fixes.

The camera performs better than its rivals on the market, especially when taking pricing into account.

This amazing pulse light may be used to glow a certain hue or sync with your ringtone when a family member or closest friend calls, among other things.

The phone has a huge 7,000 mAh battery that can be charged with 80W wired fast charging. With moderate use, you can easily obtain more than a full day of backup, which we thought was a little odd, given that a phone with a 5,000 mAh battery had comparable endurance. A full charge may have extended its lifespan even more. Additionally, the 80-watt rapid charger does a fantastic job of getting it from 10% to 100% in just one hour and 40 minutes.

Verdict

The phone is a well-optimised phone that effectively utilises its features. Although Realme UI includes considerable bloatware, it also offers a few helpful functions.

For the price, it has a respectable camera system, and its results are rather reliable. The 7,000 mAh battery is more than enough for the majority of users, and the display is just amazing.

However, it’s not the best option in the long run due to the restricted software upgrades. Therefore, if you’re searching for a phone with high features and performance and plan to switch phones in the next two to three years, the Realme 15 Pro is a great choice.
