Google Meet has expanded its emoji reactions feature, which was first released in 2023 and was confined to a limited set of nine emojis, including thumbs up and down. The platform now has access to the whole emoji collection, allowing users to express a broader range of emotions in real time during calls. The capability is presently being rolled out to Google Workspace users and will be enabled by default for everyone; however, Google Meet Rooms hardware will not have access to this expanded set of reaction emojis.
Google Meet now offers access to its entire emoji library, boosting user engagement during meetings. This tool allows users to post responses, convey feelings, and celebrate corporate culture using multiple emojis. For administrators, the emoji responses functionality is enabled by default for all users; however, it may be disabled at the domain, organisational unit (OU), or group level as needed. End users will be able to access this functionality on the web and Android platforms if their administrator has enabled it. However, there may be limitations on other systems.
Meeting hosts and co-hosts have control over this function, which they can disable if desired. They can choose to disable the comprehensive emoji picker while keeping a restricted number of responses available via the old emoji bar.

Users will be limited to using the additional emoji options directly on Meet Rooms hardware; however, they will be able to receive and display reactions from the extended set. The current options for sending reactions will stay intact. Users of personal devices in companion mode can send reactions from the extended emoji set during Meet calls.
Similarly, viewers of live streams will be unable to access the extended emoji selections, but they will be able to receive and show reactions from this set, as well as send reactions using current options.

Furthermore, it is expected that a future iOS release will provide the option to send reactions from the extended emoji set. Initially, iOS users would only be able to see reactions from the extended set sent by people on compatible devices. It’s also worth noting that organisational customisation emojis will not be supported across these features.
