Autope has set up innovative smart lockers in conjunction with Mumbai Metro One, with a total of 996 lockers installed at 12 metro stations. This effort intends to improve the everyday travel experience for over 500,000 commuters while also enhancing urban e-commerce logistics. This initiative, which builds on Autope’s existing network of 25,000 lockers in 250 Delhi Metro stations, is consistent with India’s overall goal of integrated urban transportation and the ‘One Nation One App’ philosophy.
These lockers enable secure storage and are a critical component in the growth of urban mobility. They enable effective e-commerce deliveries and increase first- and last-mile connections, resulting in more efficient and sustainable door-to-door logistics for modern citizens. Autope is now in conversations with key e-commerce businesses in India to expand these services.
The advantages include increased commuter convenience by allowing users to easily manage online orders and personal items, promoting sustainability by lowering last-mile emissions through consolidated deliveries, creating engagement opportunities for brands, and improving overall commuter experiences, making public transport more appealing and efficient for urban citizens.
Autope has shown its innovative capabilities and scalability by successfully managing 25,000 smart lockers across 250 stations for the Delhi Metro over the past 1.5 years. The technology also works with the Delhi Metro Sarathi app, which includes smart lockers, digital displays, last-mile connection solutions, and advanced ticketing systems, demonstrating Autope’s competence in high-volume transit situations.
The initiative aligns with India’s smart city plans and the “One Nation One App” vision, highlighting Autope’s ability to deliver scalable and interoperable solutions for high-volume, mission-critical environments. Although Autope has not finalised plans to extend across all Mumbai metro lines, its recent successful debut at 12 stations lays a solid framework for future expansions and urban integration. Furthermore, Autope is leveraging its previous projects with the Delhi Metro to broaden its offerings, which include advanced ticketing solutions, last-mile connectivity enhancements, payment system innovations, and non-fare revenue strategies, demonstrating its expertise in facilitating scalable and interoperable solutions required for future urban mobility in metros across India and beyond.
