Samsung’s 14-metre Onyx Cinema LED Display introduced at CinemaCon 2026

The range is already available in 5-meter and 10-meter versions.

At CinemaCon 2026, Samsung showed off a 14-metre Onyx Cinema LED display. This new model builds on the performance and dependability of previous 5-metre and 10-metre equivalents. This new display is made for bigger Premium Large Format (PLF) theatres. It has a design that can be scaled up or down. The 14-metre size fulfils the growing need for more immersive experiences in bigger theatres while making the most use of seating arrangements. This change is meant to make theatre space more useful for exhibitors.

Samsung’s Onyx cinema LED technology is a game-changing display made for movies. It has deep blacks, bright colours, and great contrast. This technology now includes the 5-metre and 10-metre variants that are already available, as well as a new 14-metre standard size for bigger theatres. The Onyx system is the first DCI-certified cinema LED display in the world. It can handle common aspect ratios, including 2.39:1 and 1.85:1.

One of its biggest improvements is the addition of HDR technology, which makes it six times brighter than traditional cinema standards with peak brightness levels of up to 300 nits. The Onyx display can show 100% colour volume at its highest brightness, and it has an infinite contrast ratio since it is so bright. These elements make it easier for viewers to get into the story, especially in gloomy sequences when details are really crucial.

The Onyx cinema LED technology is flexible, so it can be used for more than just regular films. It can also be used for live sports, concerts, gaming, and corporate presentations. It does a great job of keeping the brightness and picture quality the same no matter how big the screen or where you are sitting, which is a big plus over older projection systems.

The Onyx system works with Dolby and GDC media servers, which makes theatre management easier and makes the system even more appealing. The new 14-metre model has a pixel pitch of 3.3 mm, making sure that the picture quality is crisp. It can also be scaled up to 20 metres without losing the quality of the presentation. Individual LED cabinets may also be carefully placed together to provide a smooth, immersive visual experience from floor to ceiling.

The company says that the Onyx range, especially the ICD model, has made a name for itself in the high-end cinema sector since it came out last year. Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, has a remarkable installation of Onyx displays. This venue was planned with the help of Pathé’s headquarters and is meant to be a flagship cinema like the famous Pathé Palace in Paris. There are four auditoriums, each with a distinct Onyx display setup, with sizes ranging from 10m to 5m to 6.4m. Pathé now has 12 Onyx screens, making it the best cinema company in Europe for this technology. Trilith Cinemas in Fayetteville, Georgia, also became the first U.S. theatre to get the newest Onyx screens in December 2025. These screens provide a better viewing experience in five auditoriums and meet high production quality standards.
