Just as the world settles in for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fresh chatter online suggests the GTA 6 trailer 3 release date might be pushed further back than many fans were hoping. According to recent reports doing the rounds among Grand Theft Auto communities, Rockstar Games and Take Two Interactive could be holding off on the next major marketing push, including the long-awaited third trailer and pre-orders, until the football tournament wraps up.

Why the World Cup Might Be Calling the Shots

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is already a historic event simply by virtue of where it is happening. For the first time in the competition’s history, three nations are sharing hosting duties, with matches spread across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament runs from mid June through to mid July, and that overlap is exactly where the speculation around GTA 6 comes in.

Don’t expect anything from R⭐️ regarding GTA Trailer 3 or pre orders until after the World Cup or early August.

Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously confirmed that marketing for GTA 6 would begin in summer 2026, describing the timing as reflecting “where audiences and attention” are right now. Given that the World Cup is set to be one of the most-watched sporting events ever, with viewership numbers expected to dwarf the 2022 edition, it would not be surprising if Rockstar wanted either a slice of that attention or, alternatively, decided to step back and let football have its moment before stepping into the spotlight themselves.

What This Means for Trailer 3 and Pre-Orders

Industry watchers and dedicated GTA community members believe the next major Grand Theft Auto Online content update, possibly arriving in mid-July, could double up as a teaser for GTA 6 itself. Rockstar has form here. Before launching Red Dead Redemption 2, the studio used its predecessor’s online updates to subtly hint at what was coming next. If the same approach is used again, fans might get their first proper taste of GTA 6 hype dressed up as a GTA Online update rather than a dedicated trailer drop.

As for pre-orders, the working theory is simple. Rockstar would rather not compete with penalty shootouts and last-minute goals for headline space. Once the World Cup final is done and dusted, the marketing machine for GTA 6 is expected to properly kick into gear.

Should Fans Be Worried About a Bigger Delay

It is worth being clear about one thing. None of these points points to a delay for GTA 6 itself. The game remains on track for its November 19, 2026, release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with no PC version confirmed as yet. What is potentially being delayed is the marketing rollout, specifically the third trailer and the opening of pre-orders, not the launch date.

Online reaction has been a predictable mix of patience and frustration, with some fans pointing out that silence this close to a major release is unusual, while others argue that a few extra weeks of waiting is a small price to pay if it means a bigger, better coordinated reveal.

Honestly, after years of waiting for GTA 6, a few more weeks while the world watches football feels almost fitting. Rockstar has built an entire marketing strategy around making fans wait, and if the World Cup gives them a convenient excuse to keep doing exactly that, do not be shocked if Trailer 3 lands right when nobody expects it, possibly during a match that has absolutely nothing to do with video games.
