Apple has begun to hike the prices of Apple Music and Apple One subscriptions globally. The price rise is applicable for both new and existing members in India and the US. The company blames these changes on increased music licensing fees. The pricing changes apply to Apple Music’s Individual, Family and Student plans, and Apple One subscriptions.

Here’s the new monthly price break-up of both individual and bundled plans in India and globally:

Apple Music Monthly Tariffs

Apple Music has increased the prices of all three of its primary subscription packages. The new tariffs are as follows: the Student Plan is now priced at Rs 69 per month, a rise from the previous rate of Rs 59; the Individual Plan has been adjusted to Rs 139 per month, up from Rs 119; and the Family Plan, which accommodates up to six users, is now set at Rs 229 per month, increasing from Rs 179. The Family Plan experienced the most significant change in price.

Apple One Bundle Monthly Tariffs

Apple One combines Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud storage under one subscription. The pricing structure has been revised upwards across all three available tiers. The Individual Plan now costs Rs 195 a month, up from Rs 175, and comes with 50GB of iCloud storage. The Family Plan, offering 200GB of iCloud storage, now costs Rs 445 a month, up from Rs 365. Lastly, the Premier Plan, which gives you 2TB of iCloud storage, now costs Rs 595 per month, up from Rs 499. This price change is part of Apple’s effort to improve its service offerings under the Apple One umbrella.

Apple’s recent pricing revisions have rolled out simultaneously across major global markets like the US, the UK and Europe, along with India.

Individual Music in the US has climbed to $11.99 and Family to $19.99. This is the first significant global pricing revision for Apple Music since late 2022. Importantly, despite these price increases, Apple Music’s individual plan remains slightly lower than these price increases; Apple Music’s individual plan is still a notch below Spotify’s premium plan. The decision to charge for the service this way is probably to keep pace with the ecosystem, especially for those who use Apple’s iOS platform.

The revised tariffs are already in effect for both new and existing users on Apple’s platform.

Family plan subscriptions are growing strong worldwide with a strong jump of around 18% in the US and European markets and a staggering 28% in India. Apple Music, however, remains cheaper in India than in western countries, with ongoing subsidies to encourage customer retention against local competitors.

Earlier this year, Spotify upped the price of its Premium Individual tier to $12.99 in the US, while Apple Music has smartly kept its pricing at $11.99, $1 less than Spotify. This is Apple Music’s strategy for capturing market share from Spotify in the Western market.
