Samsung has taken the wraps off its new generation of smartwatches and foldables at the second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. The Samsung Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 pack brighter displays, bigger batteries, and run on the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. This year, the tech outfit has chosen not to put out a Classic version of its smartwatch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch9: Everything you need to know
The Galaxy Watch9 comes in 2 sizes – 44mm (1.47-inch) and 40mm (1.34-inch). The 3,000-nit AMOLED display is encased in a lightweight aluminium shell. The smartwatch is powered by the 3nm Qualcomm SDW6100 penta-core chipset and runs Wear OS 7 out of the box. There’s 2GB RAM along with 32GB storage on board. Buyers can choose from 3 colour options – Graphite, Silver, and Cream.
Samsung’s BioActive sensor array is identical across both the smartwatches. It comprises an optical bio-signal sensor, an electrical heart signal sensor, and a bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor. On top of that, you get a temperature sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, and light sensor on the two watches.
The Galaxy Watch9 is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. It can withstand up to 5ATM of water pressure and is compliant with MIL-STD-810H durability standards. The 40mm variant has a 390mAh battery, while the 44mm model packs a larger 445mAh unit.
When it comes to features, the Galaxy Watch9 gets Samsung’s new AI-powered Sleep Apnea tool, which is backed by new FDA clearance. It can deliver deeper insights into breathing disruptions during the user’s sleep cycle. The smartwatch proactively measures the user’s personal health baseline during sleep and sends alerts whenever there are significant deviations from the norm. It also provides a ‘Heart Health’ score indicative of the user’s cardiovascular wellness and offers personalised recommendations accordingly. Features like Daily Cardio Load and Fitness Index curate tailored workout goals and guidance plans based on the user’s performance and recovery needs.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Designed to go the extra mile
The rugged, heavy-duty Watch Ultra2 comes in a single 47mm size. Its 1.52-inch AMOLED display is encased in a shock-resistant titanium frame. It has a 498p resolution and can reach a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. The smartwatch weighs 61.5g and comes in 2 colour options – Titanium Grey and Titanium Silver. It is powered by the same processor as the Watch9. There’s 2GB RAM along with 64GB storage on board.
Taking durability up a notch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 can resist water pressures of 10ATM+. It is EN13319-certified, which makes it dive-ready. The smartwatch is rated IP69K for dust and water resistance. It is also compliant with MIL-STD-810H durability standards. There’s a massive 800mAh battery pack under the hood of this watch.
As soon as the user enters the water, the Watch Ultra2 automatically starts tracking real-time diving data such as depth, time and water temperature. Users also get access to advanced diving features like ascent/descent speed tracking and safe dive limits. These features will be accessible via the exclusive Diving app, which is set to be launched later this year.
The Trail Run feature on the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 tracks detailed elevation, climbing progress and terrain impact. This helps users pace themselves better on hikes and trails. Nutrition Alert is a new addition to the existing Sweat Loss feature, and provides real-time hydration guidance by estimating sweat loss relative to body weight.
The Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 are available in 6 unique band options – Marine, PeakForm, Trail, Sports, Misty, and Fabric. Buyers also get free Stray and iFIT trials for 2 months along with their purchase.
