Key Highlights
- xAI started developing Grok four months ago.
- It is the company’s first AI model based on a new large language model (LLM).
- The AI chatbot went through many iterations.
- It is only available to a small number of users.
Microblogging platform X, previously known as Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, has entered the world of artificial intelligence. He has introduced its first AI model, called Grok. The new AI model has been developed by xAI.
Elon Musk has officially announced the rollout of its first AI model, Grok. The chatbot is designed to answer anything and is modelled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. As per the blog post, the AI model will not only answer but will also suggest questions to ask.
It is said that Grok has all the real-time knowledge of the world thanks to the X platform. Moreover, the AI chatbot will also answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.
Announcing Grok!
Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!
Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use…

As per the company, the new AI model, Grok, is a prototype and is available to selected users. “Grok is still a very early beta product—the best we could do with 2 months of training—so expect it to improve rapidly with each passing week with your help,” the xAI Team noted.
Grok is powered by LLM, which was developed over the last four months. As per the startup, it trained a prototype LLM (Grok-0) with 33 billion parameters. Its capability was tested with a series of evaluations using a few standard machine learning benchmarks designed to measure math and reasoning abilities.

It managed to score 62 percent on GSM8k, 73 percent on MMLU, and 63.2 percent on HumanEval. Furthermore, on MATH, it managed to score 23.9 percent.
The xAI said, “On these benchmarks, Grok-1 displayed strong results, surpassing all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1. It is only surpassed by models that were trained with a significantly larger amount of training data and compute resources, like GPT-4. This showcases the rapid progress we are making at xAI in training LLMs with exceptional efficiency.”
In addition to this, the AI chatbot was able to score a C (59%) on the Hungarian National High School Math Exam (May 2023).
According to the company, it has given Grok access to search tools and real-time information; however, there are still chances that the AI model can generate false or contradictory information. As mentioned earlier, Grok is in the developmental phase, so the company is asking for human feedback, which will help improve the overall experience.
Grok Availability
As of now, Grok Chatbot’s features are being offered to a limited number of users in the United States. Users can access the Grok prototype and provide valuable feedback. Those who are interested can join the Grok waitlist here. The company said that it will be rolling out a new feature in the coming month, but it didn’t open up about the wider release of the AI model.
