YouTube Music releases hum to search feature: Details inside

Are you curious about its operation? Here is how it works.

Key Highlights

  • After YouTube Google is extending its hum to search feature for Youtube Music.
  • The ‘hum to search’ feature was added to the Android app for YouTube in October 2023.
  • Simply humming, whistling, or singing will allow users to search for their preferred song quickly.

According to reports, YouTube Music is gaining a feature that will make music searches simpler than they were. The music streaming platform owned by Google will soon allow you to search for music just by humming or singing. Like the video platform, YouTube Music will get a dedicated Song search option in the app, enabling this feature.

First introduced to YouTube’s Android app in October 2023, the hum to search feature looks to be making its way into the company’s music app as well. To achieve the intended outcome, users can sing, hum, or play a song using this tool. The song search function from YouTube’s Android app is now available on YouTube Music, according to a 9to5Google report. This feature is currently being rolled out to apps for iOS and Android to a limited number of users and the larger rollout hasn’t begun yet. It appears that it functions in the same way on YouTube Music just like it works for videos. However, users will notice a specific icon adjacent to the voice button rather than having to navigate through the voice search and then locate the Song icon.

While using the YouTube app on an Android device, users only need to touch the microphone icon in the search bar to bring up the Voice and Song tabs. While users can perform verbal searches using the voice tab, they can also hum, whistle, play, or sing a song to have an artificial intelligence (AI) recognise it and match it to the original.

  • To start a song search, select the Song option.
  • For ten to fifteen seconds, hum, whistle, or sing the song that you are looking for.
  • Then, using your audio input, YouTube will suggest possible matches.
