Instagram is testing a new tool that allows users to reset their content recommendations, intending to give teenagers more control over their feed. This modification is intended to provide consumers more control if the information in their feed no longer reflects their preferences. Instagram has also included additional privacy controls, allowing users to select which topics they wish to view more frequently, such as literature, travel, cuisine, or sports. The function also takes into account other signals, such as likes or shares, when deciding what to display.
Instagram is currently testing a feature that allows users to reset content recommendations in Explore, Reels, and Feed for a new start. This feature enhances current tools that enable users to tailor their suggestions. A new page on the Transparency Centre will explain how Instagram ensures minors see age-appropriate content. Instagram strives to create safe, pleasant, and age-appropriate experiences for all users, including teenagers.
Instagram said, “We want to make sure everyone on Instagram – especially teens – has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels the time they’re spending on Instagram is valuable. In addition to providing built-in protections from sensitive content with Teen Accounts, we want to give teens new ways to shape their Instagram experience, so it can continue to reflect their passions and interests as they evolve.”
Instagram’s recommendations will get more personalised over time, displaying new content based on your interactions and account history. Parents can examine and unfollow accounts that post inappropriate information. Joanna and Clea of The Home Edit share advice for organising Instagram accounts in the same way that they organise their homes, allowing parents and adolescents to assess their content and determine whether it suits them. This allows people to identify content they may like and improves their Instagram experience.
The firm is developing a new tool that will enable customers to curate their own recommendations. Users may like posts on their Explore page by touching the three dots in the corner and selecting “Interested.” Teens in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia can request more content on areas such as reading, travel, food, and sports. They may also choose “Not interested” from the three-dot menu or utilise the Hidden Words function to conceal material that includes specific words or phrases in the caption.

In addition to recommendations, Instagram will provide a variety of tools to assist adolescents in improving their Instagram experience. These include a Following Feed, which displays information in chronological order, and a Favourites list, which allows kids to view more content from their favourite accounts. Close Friends gives kids more control over who sees their Stories, and the “Your Activity” area in Settings helps them manage their digital imprint. Regularly monitoring their following lists ensures that the accounts they follow are still displaying content that they value. Overall, Instagram offers teenagers a complete platform for enhancing their Instagram experience.

Parents are concerned about their teenagers viewing unsafe stuff online, prompting stronger content restrictions on their applications. They remove content that violates these guidelines, prohibit minors from viewing sensitive or mature information, avoid suggesting it, and, in some cases, conceal it from teens, even if it was posted by someone they follow. A new page in the Transparency Centre describes the many layers of protection and shows instances of content categories that were deleted, hidden from adolescents exclusively, and avoided suggesting.
