Google Gemini is introducing a Spotify extension that lets users use the Gemini AI assistant on compatible Android smartphones to play and search for music in the app. When the app language is set to English, the extension allows users to connect their Spotify and Google accounts and utilise the AI-powered virtual assistant to search for music by song, album, artist, playlist, and other criteria. It’s worth noting that only Spotify Premium users may request certain tracks. The extension is only available while Gemini’s Apps Activity is enabled.
According to Google’s support page, when you link your Spotify and Google accounts, you may use Gemini Apps to play or search for music on Spotify. For example, you may request music by song, album, artist, playlist, and more.

Spotify is currently not accessible in Gemini in Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the Gemini app on iPhone. The extension only works when Gemini’s language is set to English and the Gemini Apps Activity is enabled. It works with both verbal and textual prompts. If “Hey Google” does not function, ensure that “Hey Google” and Voice Match are enabled. Spotify only plays requested tracks with a Premium membership.
To connect to Spotify, your Spotify account must be linked to your Google Account. If you haven’t already, follow these steps to do so. Ask the Gemini app to play, search, or browse music on Spotify. If it’s not connected, connect it. Follow the on-screen instructions. You can turn Spotify on or off at any time in your Extensions settings.

The Gemini app may be used to play or search for music on Spotify, as long as you have linked numerous music services and do not mention one in your request. To utilise another available service, just include the music service or “@” in your prompt. The application may locate and play music using a variety of cues, including playing albums, songs by artists, playlists, and searching for songs, lyrics, genre, mood, and activity music.
