What is Connections?

After Wordle, Connections is the New York Times’ most popular word game. The rules are simple. You need to find words with a common theme and group them into 4 groups of 4. The 16-word grid is designed with an increasing level of difficulty. The Yellow group is the easiest to spot, followed by Green, Blue, and Purple. The misdirects and red herrings can trip you up, but they also make the puzzle more fun. You can play it on the NYT Games app or on the official website.

Here’s your grid for today

  • WEEKEND
  • RANDO
  • PAULO
  • FRANCI
  • JOHNS
  • MONICA
  • WORK
  • WONK
  • TOME
  • SALVADOR
  • DIVISION
  • VOLUME
  • DISTANCE
  • OPUS

Answers to NYT Connections (#1,066) Today (May 12, 2026)

Close to waving the white flag? Fine, we’ll give you the answers.

  • 🟡Yellow Group: Opus, Tome, Volume, Work. (Substantial Book)

Yellow categories are meant to be easy, but this one required some thinking. These words don’t exactly jump out right away. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was the last group you guessed.

  • 🟢Green Group: Monica, Paulo, Petersburg, Salvador. (‘Saint’ Cities)

In our opinion, this was the easiest category today. However, it did have a twist. While all these cities are named after saints, they don’t share the same ‘St’ prefix. Santa Monica, São Paulo, St. Petersburg, and San Salvador were the cities. ‘Johns’ was a misdirect.

  • 🔵Blue Group: Distance, Division, Johns, Weekend. (‘Long’ Things)

Not the worst Blue category words we’ve seen on a puzzle, but the connection among them wasn’t obvious. This is why we love solving the puzzle – it always keeps you on your toes.

  • 🟣Purple Group: Franci, Rando, Realm, Wonk. (Currencies Plus a Letter)

Franc, Rand, Real, and Won. This one was pretty self-explanatory, unless, like us, you were also adamant that ‘Rial’ was spelt wrong.

Answers to yesterday’s puzzle

  • 🔵Blue Group: Chinatown, Knives Out, Seven, Vertigo. (Detective Movies)
  • 🟣Purple Group: Elegy, Karma, Keyed, Shandy (Body Parts Surrounded By Two Letters)
